    Hi Terra,
I know this is off topic, but you seem very knowledgeable in foam and so many other facets of crafts. I want to create a center console for my 1970 Monte Carlo and was wondering if I used foam to make the form of it, what would I use to harden it so it was virtually unbreakable....or should I go in a totally different direction then initial foam. I am used to using fiberglass on cars to repair holes and rust as well as bondo and like how the fiberglass can be sanded down to a smooth surface. However, I have seen many forums where they have actually built entire cars with foam and used many forms of sealer to harden the object. I really don't like doing things half way and wanted to know from a pro their opinion. Thanks for your time and keep up the great work! Halloween has ALWAYS been my favorite time!

Hi Terra, just saw your gravestone tutorial and can't wait to get started on my new career. I've been in the design world for over 26 years, mainly on the computer now, but before traditional. I've always wanted to create museum and theme park attractions and believe it's time to begin...thanks for the inspiration! The great thing is I will keep my design skills creating kiosks and implement it into my first love of sculpting. Thanks again!

Thanks for your input! I agree on keeping the lights "on". Love the tentacle prop tutorial! Thanks for sharing it. I may look into finding those since I have the pirate theme going.

Thanks Terra. Still playing with the lighting. I was hoping for the "cannon effect" but it looks like internal cabin lights instead. Will check around for some other twinkling lights. Not sure if I want to keep his eyes flashing or just "on". Here are two clips, lights on and lights off. By the way, all of your pictures and tutorials are very impressive!! Thanks for all your time in sharing and posting. Let me know if the links dont work!!

Terra, Had to share this with you and get your thoughts! I loved your idea of using light inside the tombstone. I'm making a Blackbeard one and decided to incorporate lights for his eyes and the lit fuses. I'm also going to use "flicker" lights behind the ship to simulate cannons going off. I carved the stone, "weathered", mud coat, and black detail paint and dry brush clean up. I'm working on the lights now but wanted to share it. Want to thank you again for the various ideas you have posted that is what gave me the idea! Will share the finished product once i am through.

Faux Metal Haunt Boxes: Tutorial

by Terra on 05-07-2012 at 06:58 AM
Here's a space filler for large voids or openings in your haunt. Plus they look cool too:

These were large cardboard boxes given a makeover using paint and monster mud.

Please watch this quick video to help you get an overall idea of how the build will be like:

Foam Sculpt and Scale Halloween Monster Props: Tutorial

by Terra on 04-29-2012 at 04:56 PM

This tutorial will show how to design, cut, carve, sand, scale and paint a prop made out of foam. It will follow a Hell Hound build made for our 2012 haunt. The Hell Hound is a static yet intimidating prop. If it was real monster it would measure 10' nose to tip of tail. The prop's tail is curled so it's actual length is 8' but the height is still

8' long Tentacle Arms: Tutorial

by Terra on 03-22-2012 at 04:24 AM
Got these terrific tentacle arms from Fright Props but needed two things to make them work for our haunt. First, they needed to be hangable. Second, they had to be extended another 3 feet to be long enough to hang from the 13' ceilings in the garage so they'd be scary. The plan was to have five of them in a tight part of the haunt and the little ToTs had to touch them to go around. To make it even more intimidating - they were painted in fluorescent paint, two were rotating slowly on mirror ball

Transworld 2012

by Terra on 03-16-2012 at 07:33 AM
It was bigger this year! I didn't see huge new stand-out props BUT the vendors took existing ideas and ramped it up to level 11. It was awesome. As usual made a highlight video which is the best way to get an overview of the show:

My favorite prop of the show was The Thing-type monster grabbing at the girl on the table. Made by Dark Raven Designs. $3,650

Notes from the video:

Castle Of Terra: Vampyr Reign 2012 Plan

by Terra on 02-19-2012 at 06:04 AM
Alrighty, it's time once again to plan the haunt. This year's theme is Vampyr Reign which may be familiar to you. This was also the theme for 2009. We have three rotating themes to cut down on the work of designing and building. Hopefully 3 years is enough time for the ToTs to completely forget what it was like. But, that doesn't mean everything is exactly the same. In fact, starting to think that I might as well make a new name for the haunt because there are so many new things this year.
