    Hi!

Yeah, we made quite a few last year. At least 14, but I think we only employed 8 of them in our display (some were trial and error trying to get the shape right). I'll be honest and say that it's pretty dry here in Southern Idaho (very low humidity and little rain fall) so I don't know how well my methods were tested. One of our large paper mache props stood out in two days worth of rain, but I covered it with plastic because I didn't have the guts to see how well it would hold up to direct moisture. Especially since Halloween night was less than two weeks away and it took us about 3 months of solid work to build them. In the end, we had absolutely no problems with moisture.

Our plan this year calls for somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 to 30 more paper mache pumpkins. We think we can speed up the process a little, but no matter how you approach it, it takes a lot of time. There is no getting around dipping strips of paper into a goopy mess and then slathering it onto an object.

This is a pic of how our pumpkin heads looked:

Anyway, scour the first thread since it has a lot of information about our process. If you have any questions about it you are more than welcome to ask me here, or even post in the thread since people have been bumping it to the top lately. Like anyone else around here, I love to talk about this stuff, especially the stuff that I am personally working on. The second link has some pics of our display which also shows some lit pumpkins positioned along our front railing.
