Oh dear goodness. Look, this isn't technically a candle, so I hope it's okay to post here about it. But I just received Yankee Candle Autumn Leaves room spray, and I thought I'd leave a warning...er, a review. Oh. Dear. Gourd. This spray smells SO GROSS. It smells exactly...and I mean exactly like an older man doused in too much cologne. Yeah...you know the older dude I'm talking about. The one who has just crammed his girth into the seat right next to you in the waiting room because...

No, thank goodness. I mean, as a child I'd get "boring" stuff - pretzels, pennies, a toothbrush - but nothing truly weird, and nothing dangerous. I wanted to give out pens last year that looked like filled syringes. My husband asked me not to because he said people might freak out if they opened their child's trick-or-treat bag and saw a syringe. They were filled with ink (obviously) and my husband argued that some kids might think it was candy. So we used them at home instead. I am...

Just candy corn so far at Walgreen's. I can't wait until the local store bakeries start whipping up pumpkin and spicy goodies - I love to go the store first thing in the morning because that's when you can smell stuff baking. :)

^ And it's pretty much the same idea, at least where I live, on the bigger kids wanting "free candy": I see the HS kids every day walking to McD's or Donut Man and buying goodies for their after-school snack. Many teens work at least a few hours a week; others receive an allowance; many kids get a few bucks for birthdays, Christmas, etc. from relatives. It's obvious that if they want candy badly, they can go buy a piece of candy themselves. They can get a peanut butter cup rather than a...

Exactly. I have heard people complain that parents take babies out and a few comments to the effect that the parents just want free candy. I find that a bit counterintuitive - spending $20 or more on a costume to get candy? They could just spend $20 on four bags of candy, LOL! Much much easier. And no walking around carrying a baby. I took my son out trick-or-treating when he was 15 months old although I had no intention of letting him eat peanut butter cups. We made it to five houses...

If you want to get technical, St. Jerome's Day comes before Columbus Day...so does National Customer Service week...let's not get crazy here! :D (And psst...your assertion that CD is the next holiday after Labor Day is, itself, incorrect...the next holidays in the most literal sense of the world are Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah.) Our schools don't get Columbus Day off and neither has any place I've ever worked, nor where my husband works... ;) Of course, we don't get Halloween off either but...

Love Independence Day. I own it and still watch it every once in a while. Did you notice Jeff Goldblum's line when he and Will Smith are escaping the alien mother ship? "Must go faster! Must go faster!" He said the same thing in Jurassic Park when they were fleeing from the T rex in the Jeep.

100 feet of led string lights are being sold on eBay for $45 ( 100 ft cool white leds ) - they have them in other colors as well. There's 300 led's, so that's one led every 4 inches, for 100 feet. Don't know how long the pathway is, but if it's 50 feet, one string would cover both sides (pretty much).

Well, you know, it really depends upon where exactly you are, but yes, my friends in various towns all have loads of decorated yards and the like, and so does my town. There are also the "notorious" parades like the one in South Pasadena (or I think that one is still going on each year). It's...different, though. It's not as focused on fall (sadly for me...I'm from the northeast)...it's more on the "anything goes!" factor. At least from what I've experienced. But pretty much anywhere you go,...

We bought a rubber bat and a huge rubber spider at our DT. :) They don't have a lot out yet but they did have those items, plus a few pumpkin shelf items (mini ones) and they do have the fall artificial flowers, which they generally put out in August.

I was thrilled and very surprised to see a couple of little shelves with Halloween stuff in Rite-Aid on Sunday! I say surprised because for the most part, I've only seen a picking or two at Dollar Tree and one of those pyrex displays of candy corn at Walgreens. (We are always late to get stuff out around here - probably at least in part because the weather won't be dipping under 95-100 for another 4-6 weeks or so; at least I assume that's why. I think SoCal doesn't think "fall" in general this...
