Ugly Joe replied to a thread Atmosphere Effects: Clear rods for Floating Candles in Graveyard? in Halloween Props
I don't have a pic of what I do, but I have nothing overhead in my yard and still pull off the "floating candle" effect pretty well. There is a power pole at the corner of my property, and it's about fifty feet from the closest corner of my roof: this is one of my main anchors for the fishing line I use (I use 50 pound test, which I can pull quite taut and still have strength in the line). I'll run two lines from the pole (I attach them about fifteen feet up on the pole) to two different...

The Curse of Frankenstein (1957). Nuther film version of the Frankenstein story. In this one, Frankenstein is an unscrupulous scientist who even resorts to murder to get the body parts he needs, and the creature is a violent murderous beast. By contrast, in the 1931 version, Frankenstein is an obsessed but well-meaning individual, and the creature is a frightened hulk that doesn't know his own strength. Both movies are pretty good.

I find this good to hear - and from my experience, after cutting back for a halloween or two, the lack of pressure rejuvenates the desire to create again (well, it did for me, at least).

thatnks everyone! I make the wood grain look with wire brushes dragged along the "grain" of the foam and I use some curved semi-circular motions to get the variations and almost knot hole look. I also use an Xacto to carve the board separations and worn edges and I use a rough sanding block to polish it up a bit. Then I use the heat gun method to get deep grain, heavy in some areas, less in others. For paint I start with a dark brown to get in the grooves and then follow it up with...

I thought I'd post this, I made this last Halloween (2014), I planed for it to be a ground breaker that rattled it's door, I couldnt really get the door to knock around like I had planned so for the most part it became a static prop with a motion activated strobe on it and some fog. I made it out of pink foam and painted it in a faux wood finish.

just based on the specs they provide about this projector it seems pretty crappy, 150lux/lumens, good luck seeing that in any kind of ambient light, and at 500:1 contrast ratio, not very brilliant colors, will most likely look pretty dull, 480*320 will be pretty blurry or pixelated at any real distances over 6ft, and I'll go out on a limb and guess the speakers are probably 1-3watts so no real volume.....But I could be completely wrong but even their web site says it's for the uber noob

it's a very low spec projector and only has an SD card or USB port to use if you want to add more content then whats preloaded, but, the price is good for what it is.

according to GoE, they do carry it it in California but you have to request it. so I guess you just have to go to Home Depot and ask? I live in Tx so it's easy to get in 1"x4'x8' sheets. I hope you have some luck.

Ugly Joe replied to a thread Mechanical: Looking for vertebrae in Halloween Props
I'm sure it was considered, but perhaps the easiest answer would be to sculpt your own from foam and paint it. I suppose this would depend on how much wear and tear the neck will encounter, but if the weight is supported by metal, and no one is going to be handling the piece, a foam facade could do the trick. ...and in the case of needing a bit more durability, there are coatings that are still (relatively) cheap and simple to use. (I like this one (the All Purpose) : Foam Coat - it's...

My personal experience with these are that you are purchasing a "one job tool". I had one that lasted about 20-30 uses, and broke. Then again, that's exactly what I expect from Harbor Freight tools - I buy them if I don't expect a quality tool (some jobs need a tool that I'll likely never need after that - like that reverse-thread left-handed Ballinger hemeostat).

I used to live about 25 minutes from Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. I went to the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery with my brother and some of his friends years ago. We went at night (of course). As we left the cemetery after a good deal of wandering, my brother randomly shone his flashlight on two or three stones. At the very exit he turned to me and said, "You pick the last one." I pointed randomly to one dark stone to my left. My brother shone the light on it. The date of death was exactly one day...

Isn't it funny, the things people remember and the things that make an impression! This year we spent hundreds of dollars on my son's birthday, as usual. What present does he turn to time and time again? Some $8 Super Mario hat, this cheap little thing we picked up. I said to my husband, "We could have just bought the hat and saved $392."

See if it's a known phobia - The Phobia List (of course, that list may be incomplete) This one gets bonus points for oxymoronic naming: Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia - Fear of long words. edited to add: And I'll agree with you that I am not comfortable discussing anything that actually curdles my blood with fear - but I'll happily talk about the things that make my skin crawl...that kind of stuff is just silly. Like spiders crawling on me - no thanks, but not debilitating.

When looking for bargains for Halloween decorations, I've had some great luck with using items that aren't sold as "Halloween". I managed to pick up a bucketfull of those small flicker bulbs (where the filament is in the shape of a flame, and they glow orange) that I purchased after Christmas (the bulbs were clearanced with a bunch of Hanukkah decorations - they were intended for use in a menorah. I picked up just under a hundred or so for pennies per bulb). I found these at Walmart, on...
