I really like this thread so I'm going to keep talking. LOL! :D Another way to raise items up is to use the boxes some of your collectibles come in. For example, drape a tablecloth over a display table. Then, set up some of the boxes on top & cover with more cloth, puddling the cloth around the boxes. Think like buffet spreads ~ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/87257311504568345/ This one is a great display with varied heights -...

Okay, I read the rest. Lots of good tips here! If you aren't liking a display with mixed pieces, sure part of that could be due to you not having the display skills (yet) that you want, but also it just might not FEEL right to you, and that's okay too! Maybe solve that by choosing to keep like with like. For example, grab a cheap bookcase from a thrift store & spray paint it black. Use a small to medium, not busy, pattern (orange & black maybe) of Halloween fabric & cut it out to fit the...

YES!! I have some large Stephen King hardbacks & other Halloween/horror books I'll stack to give height to things. Some I use to sit my blow molds on in our front window. I also used to have a ton of old VHS movies that I'd use as display & to stack to give height to things but I think my husband went on a rampage one day & rid us of such "unnecessary" things. If you don't have any appropriate seasonal books hit up Goodwill/Salvation Army/thrift stores or the used book store,...

I haven't read all the replies yet but I was struck by your comments that this display is along the lines of what you'd like to achieve. So, here's my two cents about what I notice: 1. The majority of the objects are in the same color family, primarily orange & black. Although there are other colors you can see, those sort of recede & don't feel jarring because orange & black ties them all together. So, you want to group your items into color families when you can so that they have this...

Hmmm... this question is a little harder to answer than I thought! My DH and I do our yard display together but we do have different approaches so it's always a compromise. He likes to display anything that catches his fancy, mostly things that startle scare or have fog. LOL! I really want cohesion - I want our yard display to tell a story, even if I might be the only one who knows it. The stuff we have falls into cemetery/graveyard, spooky scarecrow/cornfield & now a witch area/shack. I'm...

Those are tremendously amusing. I second ooojen's thoughts about Velociraptor-like arms, although any of the other ideas would look amazing, too.

Sometimes the best thing to do is not go out. Ah!! who are we kidding. ??Of course WE need more foam and oops paint. You never know when we will paint this huge large scale prop. Just think all the gas we save just buying it all now.

Haven't needed actors, but I would second the idea of contacting the high school, particularly the theater department. Possibly lure them in with free pizza. The bonus is they will be sure to tell their friends and you might get some free advertising at the school. Their set design students might also like to help with your build. Students are always looking for outside activities to add to their college applications.

Can't wait to see your photos. Thank goodness the little one had you and hubby to step in. We took in two neices 6 years ago and changed our lives so much. We had them for 6 months and then the youngest went to her dad. The oldest (in sixth grade at the time) remained with us and our adult daughter. She is graduating from high school. Bless you for being there. I love the Sea Witch theme and am excited about doing it at one point or maybe adding a sea witch to my group of ample witches.

Oh Hilda, you are such a tease! My little female doxie usually goes nuts when she hears a witch cackle or laugh but not at this one. I think it sounds more human than most and that gave me an idea to try to get it for my phone ringer! I have wanted one for years but can't have her having a bark thon everytime the phone rings. Does anyone know how to turn something like this into a ringtone? I didn't get to work on my vic's package today since I had PT, and two doctors appts with my sister....

Lizzy, you are a wonderful granddaughter and mother. You have had so much illness and sadness in recent years. Enjoy the time left with grandma and let her marvel and enjoy the love of the little one and the blessing that she is. You and the little one will have many more Halloweens to decorate at home. Enjoy this first one by TOTings. Family is always first. Love, prayers and hugs to you and the family.
