A Jacobs ladder is relatively easy to build. Obviously the transformer is the biggest component. Don't bother with Craigslist (like I originally did). Simply go to a neon light contractor. Tell them you are looking for a used15kv "Franceformer" (yes with an "F"). It is a brand name. A 12kv would probably work, but 15 is supposed to be the best. They often have them sitting around from old jobs and they cannot re-use them. They may just give it to you, but at the most you should only spend $20. Craigslist will want up to $100.00 for a used one.

Once you get one be careful. There is enough juice to do you some serious damage. Don't just plug it in. Make sure the high voltage leads are far away from anything that can conduct. I created my electrodes out of rebar. You want something heavy so rods don't sway under current. then simply hook them up to the high voltage side. But, But, But be careful. You need to learn and take all precautions. I'd hate to see you get hurt.


To make everything nice and safe I separated the Jacobs Ladder from users with plexiglass sheets. You never know what TOTs will want to touch.

Sizzling Sam has capabilities to go even faster... I have it tuned down to keep from breaking the chair. I need to do another video of it with the fogger and lights running. The crate was one of the first pneumatics I built. I fell in love with one I saw at a pro haunt, and just had to build one. Of course no one's going to just pop the hood to let you see how there's works, so I had to figure it out. I was happy with the results. I actually sold several of them.

I'm not sure if you were able to look at any of my albums, but we did a mad scientist this year. It was a lot of fun. Lots of eye candy involved. Bubbling vials, sparks, brightly lit fluids. It was a big hit this year. Now having a werewolf eat the mad scientist would certainly add another level of excitement.

Next year I was thinking of making a castle/dungeon. Maybe with a little Young Frankenstein feel to it, although I'm not sure how I would do it in black & white (ha ha). I'm big into making the scenes look right. I want to spend a lot of time getting the stone walls looking as real as possible.

Ah, I always intend to do a lot of that myself. I always try to convince my wife to sit down with me and do a post-mortem (which somehow seems appropriate) but Halloween ends for her midnight Oct. 31. Trying to come up with some new ideas for next year and thinking how I can fix up the perennial Halloween decorations. And I told my wife that I'm not touching anything this Saturday, but Sunday we'll start packing the stuff away. Too exhausted.

So, you've made three new hummer-sized werewolves in the last three years. Where do they go?

Are you already thinking about next year or are you going to take a break? I've got some ideas for next year, but I've got a list of chores that has been backing up. I'd better get them done first.
