I didn't know about your Photobucket album, what a treat to see I put it in the slideshow view and enjoyed the little surprises. For example: The skulls in the leaves at your front door and the tiny little mice running along the baseboards. LOL! You are a genius.

Hi Laurie, just wanted to sneak a peek at your Halloween display. So, how did it go? Also, thank you again for all your help on Terra. She fulfilled her mission and scared the heck out of the ToTs. Well, at least she distracted them enough for me to blast them with an air cannon Here's a video of the night if you want to the lovely sounds of ToTs screaming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jQ1mKSQGNc

Thank you for passing down all the great info! Because I was going for it and forging ahead some of your sage cautions I have learned first hand (like...why is this head taking so loooooong to dry even after putting it the oven for hours!haha)! But your info is very helpful to confirm that the issues I am experiencing have less to do with anything I did wrong but more with the nature of the materials. To exascerbate the time problem I've had to travel on business the last few days and was unable to work on anything (but at least now the head is dry!). I'm so far along that I'm still going to go for it and sand and paint the head tonight. Probably won't have the hands done in time so I'll just have to fake them out with the shawl. Thanks again for all your advice and assistance Laurie - I truly appreciate it.

    Laurie,

What type of clay do you use as the final layer on your sculptures? The vampiress and bride props look so lifelike! I really want to try to make a Dobby house elf for next year (and to hang out in my classroom during the off season). How do you make the skin look so real?

Lauriebeast - I was so inspired by your work that even though it is at the last minute and having absolutely no sculpting experience I decided to give some of your methods a try and make a witch for my cauldron. I am attempting to make a head/neck and hands and will use pvc armature for the body. I started two days using a cheap foam skull, kids clay, foil and tape as the base for the head. Was surprisingly satisfied with the base but after work tonight I started applying Sculptamold (couldn't find Celluclay you note nearby ). I had a gooey mess to begin with but after working with my newly bought sculpting tools and wet fingers the head has started to look like something (maybe a witch but could also be a stippled half moon!). May I ask how you achieved such a smooth finish on the Celluclay prior to applying the DAS? Is it a special technique or just your practiced skills? Your work is even more amazing after giving it a try. I'm sure your busy with the big day only days away but hoping you could impart some wisdom to a newbie that may have bit off more than he can chew. Thank you very much!
