Check out my latest album on my site.

    The Costumer as Charley's Aunt.

It tell the story of where the character comes from as well as shows some famous actors in the role.

This and The Granny came from the same outfit. Just changed wigs and added granny glasses and a pipe. Saves a lot of moiney. Especially in these times.
  2. Yes, I do find period costume so comfy. I love my hoop and my back benefited from wearing a high quality corset for the night. Good luck again, I'm glad I could be of help

Your tips on how to move about in a hoopskirt were perfect. See my comments on the section where I asked the question.

Needless to say, being a male I never use hoopskirts. This is the first time.

I use it for the Granny, Charley's Aunt and The Grande Aunt ( I have added this one to my costume characters album).

To be honest wearing the entire outfit is quite comfortable. It is dressing and undressing that are the pits!

Actually I think that I will stick to hoopskirts for any future female character. That way I don't have to worry about my legs. Just wear my colonial hose with a garter or my black medical support hose with a garter.. I use my Little Lord Fauntleroy shoes with the bows. Actually they are a pair of bedroom slippers with bows attached. So, no heels to fool with.

I do like to lift my skirts to show my pantelettes so I want the hose and shoes to be halfway decent.

    Thanks for the help.

See my Martha Stewart Prep album

I am getting this material from a friend who has a resale boutique very cheap and some free.

Still coming, a long red flowing skirt, another blouse or two, two pairs of shoes ( hope they fit), clip on earrings, long pearl necklace and possiby a couple of jacket/knee lenght skirt combos.

I can pick out the best and donate the rest.

Let me know what you think.
  6. I saw a nice plumper at Sally's (the beauty supply store) in case you were looking. It was actually like a chapstick that you put on pre-lipstick so you can use any color...

For the light color in the lip stick, you put on the liner, pretty much staying on your lip line (though I always try to make the "cupids bow" a little more defined) apply the lipstick as you normally would, then you take a shimmery white eyeshadow on your finger and dab it on the center of your bottom lip. Don't "Shmooz" the lip color after. And if you are feeling really crazy add a clear gloss over that. I'll send pics if I get a chance.

I need to figure out my own make-up for my costume this year... I was thinking like, dead civil war prostitute like, but I'm not sure....

I totally want to be "Glinda" one year- I was when I was little.. I had an OZ birthday party one year. We made a yellow brick road out of moving boxes and spray paint and I slipped and fell on my butt.. LOL.

    Hi!

Would you explain a little on how to apply the lipstick with the highlights in the middle to look fuller.

I usually just take the lipstick and apply to lips and then press lips together. That's what I did on my French Aristocrats costume.

    Thanks.

I have thin lips so a lip plumper will do well.

I have been sugguested to use rose or mauve color lipstick.

As far as sugguestions for you, what type of characters do you like to do.

For Halloween, do The Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. Or Countess Dracula.

For historical do a Rennaisance lady or Marie Antionette.

For a role reversal, due Hansel from Hansel and gretel.

    Hope these ideas help.

Speaking of role reversals, how did you like my transformation picture in my album?
  9. I would not do nail polish... And if you are trying to do a period impression, then I would avoid red lip-stick and go a more natural shade with a gloss and a very very light color in the center of your lips, it will make them look much fuller (that's what I do, I pat a little white shimmer right smack in the middle and it makes them POP). You can also use a liner to help accentuate. You can also get a lip plumping lip stick, which kinda swells them. Rimmel used to make a REALLY good (and cheap) one, you can probably find it at Walmart. My friend also just mentioned that they come in chapstick form now too.... so that could help. =)

    Any suggestions for me?
