I planned to use some rouge for the cheeks, light powder and red lipstick to emphasize my lips since they are thin and not full!

Never though of the mauve color.

I have some black fingerless gloves. Do you think that I should use nail polish?

When I costume, I want everything to be exact!
  2. I love the bonnet. It's fabulous, and I want one. lol.

I must further confess I'm not entirely sure the impression you want to make with your grandmother. Generally, I think a paled face, slightly exaggerated cheek and mauve lip would do just fine.

Do you have gloves as well? I cannot recall from the photo.

I will have some time this weekend to practice with my costume.

I have not had the opportunity to wear either the black or red outfit out to a function mainly since these were done right befire Hurricane Katrina.

My first time costumed as a woman.

I'll let you know how the practice goes.

Oh, any tips on makeup for the Grandmother? I am completely in the dark in this area?

    Thanks.

    What do you think?

Same wig, no shawl but an ermine capelet, a tiara and a very puffed out hoopskirt. The 8 yd petti on top of the hooped petticoat.
  5. The pic's a little fuzzy but I got it. =) very cool.

I love historical costumes.... I'm partial to the 19th century and the Renaissance, But I would love a 18th century gown. *sigh* But that type if corset may still be out of my league.

I don't really care what people think... I love costumes, and I've warn Civil War dresses to school on days other than halloween... and I've been known to wear a corset just because it makes a dress hang more nicely, or a Ren. Bodice with Jeans.

    I'm glad you don't worry anymore. =)

Just some one I found when I needed a costume years ago. No relation, just business relations. And somewhat a friend too!

Growing up I would never wear a costume! I was very shy and hated costuming.

A girl friend hoodwinked me into a costume party when I was in my 40's. Needless to say I couldn't/wouldn't say no. I went as a prince!

I tried it and liked it and have enjoyed costuming ever since.

I particular enjoy historical costumes especially the 1700's with the tight knee breeches.

I am sort of liking to costume as a woman as well. Never thought I would! But guess what? It's a lot of fun.

I don't worry anymore about what someone is going to say. They are going to talk about you and say it anyway.

I have never been out with thse costumes because i got them around the time of Hurricane Katrina ( I live in metro New Orleans) and it took a while for things to come back.

If you have an e-mail I will send the pictures of the red outfit. It will now have a much larger puffed up skirt when my friend send the new petti along with the ermine cape (satin lined) and tiara.

All of those costumes are made by my costumer & her assistant. I put up the idea and then they design and make.

My dress was made by my costumer. It buttons up the front top to make it easier for me to get into.

I am not that familiar with ladies clothing so I have no idea what a drop shoulder gown is?

By the way, what is it?

Do you think I make a good woman in costume?

I have been told I do and should consider maybe some other female charcaters.

I am planning to do Martha Stewart with help from my Designer Consignor friend who has my measurements. All of the clothing will be very inexpensive or free. It's coming from a high caliber resale boutique.

Don't want to spend money at this time for costumes.

    The story of Charley's Aunt.

I have always liked the play and film Charley's Aunt. Seen the production in play form and have the films. I have a Playhouse 90 Charley's Aunt starring Art Carney which convinced me that this would be a great costume.

My costumer was against this and made for me a plum red outfit with a seperate top and a seperate skirt. It was designed for a hooped petticoat.

I never used it and convinced my costumer to to the black Charley's Aunt.

I was going to donate the plum outfit or try to sell it though my Designor Consignor friend. Since it was made especially for me, it would be hard to sell.

So the Designor Consignor who also makes historiical costumes recommended to me I need add a petticoat to make the skirt larger. She made one for me out of dark red tafida from 8 yards of material. She also recommended that I get an ermine like capelet and a tiara. Then I could go as a Countess. Since I have a wig with long curls, all I would need would be blood red lips and vampire fangs. Thus, a great costume for Halloween. All of this for $130. I have not received the package yet ( which will include the Martha Stewart items) so I can use it for next year.

On the corset, I have a leather bra/corset combo. The problem with this is I am wringing wet when I take it off.

My Designor Consignor lady is fixing me up a nice combo corset with lace, that I can put on easy and do not have to attach in the back. I will be able to tie the strings to tighten it on me. Also she is making it so that I will have some nice sized breasts as well.

    Well, that's it.

I have no idea how to attach a copy of the red Original Charley's Aunt costume to this message.

I will have to send it to you seperately.

And from Charley's Aunt came The swinging Grandmother. Two characters from one outfit.

And that is how I got into dressing like a woman!

When the economy gets going again I would like to do a Rennaisance King and a Pharoah.

    Talk athca later
