We've used actors for several years and our results have been great! The interaction between a scare actor and the crowd, whether it be in the queue line or going through the haunt, can't be duplicated by an animated prop or static scare. Last year we had 30 people work our haunt. It was non stop scares and screams! Our carnevil crew from 2015 zombies 2014

I know these are very simple and basic but I had time to kill so wanted to dress up a few of our witch jars. Got some wooden dowel caps at the craft store and glued them to the jar lids. Painted them black then brushed on a bit of brown. The variety will look neat.

Lilibat, is there a possibility of you taking a picture of yourself standing next to it to get a sense of scale? You can blur out your face if you are not comfortable with that, just want to see how it looks next to a person, if it's not possible, no biggie, thanks

Well, I'm not sure whether this will help with your question or just give you that much more to think about. This past year we did a crypt mausoleum for our entrance to the haunt made out of the free, yes free, foam blocks you can scrounge from most Tractor Supply stores. they use them for shipping trailers. With 240+ blocks and a lot of great stuff, we made a crypt 13' x 8' x 8' . The blocks are about 18" x 12" x 12". Start collecting them and you could make some really cool stone walls! ...

Started getting the shop together. The room kind of got used as the stash all for extra paints/grout/etc from the house construction and I'm still cleaning that up. There's also a lot of boxes from the storage shed that got put here until we unpack them and get them in their permanent location still. My mask blanks, 'near lifecast' (I do a cheaper cast that get's the basic form pretty good, but not as detailed as a true lifecast) heads of each of us. I need to make new blanks...

Still putting things back together, believe it or not. Just unpacked storage and have started to get the shop put together, pictures soon. The yard is an absolute disaster from the remodeling. Debating how 'big' we'll go halloween wise, vs how much we just work on the yard. Depends on whether I can budget up a new patio for the back yard or not.

This is what I struggle with as well, for lack of a better way to put it. We've been doing a haunt for over 20 years and we've developed a loyal following. We now have older teens and young adults who come by and tell us they've been coming to our house since they were young. Parents tell us how much they like coming each year and how they appreciate what we do to give kids a fun Halloween. I think of the void we'd leave if we just stopped doing it so hopefully we can scale back gradually and...

Thanks. I thinjk it was like $10.00 or somewhere close. I'll put a bat or a crow in it, something creepy.

Doing little accent props for our witch house. Bought an old book from a thrift store. Aged the cover with paper mache and some paint/dry brush. Printed a couple spells off and stained the paper with a coffee filter. Set it on the easel I got on clearance from Michaels and it came out pretty fair. This will sit someplace in the main room of the haunt.

I would love one day when I retire from halloween decorating, just doing projections. Or 1 massive art piece for the front yard. Light up well, and thats it. I have talked with the neighbors and said it would be fun to pumpkin carve- in the range of 20 or 30 pumpkins, then tea light them and thats it. Eventually it will just be my little fave things inside the house maybe. These are all my thoughts when I eventually will start toning it down. But life is funny, and probably when I am 80 I will...

99% sure you could just use a plaster of paris skull *provided you're just going for looks and using a propane fire pit, not trying to cook or use it as refractory for actual heating*. I don't know if any of my plaster skulls don't have foam in them anymore, but if I find one, I'll certainly throw it on the fire pit and see if it explodes or something.

Good post and one I identify with. We had actually planned to scale way back three years ago. I was pretty much a one man set-up/tear down crew, and while we had ample help working the walk through haunt on Halloween, come 11/1 I was tearing down all by myself and it got to be a chore. Along came fellow haunter and forum member "lewlew" who lived not too far from me and who's own awesome haunt was on hiatus. We agreed to do a collaborative effort back in 2014 and while it took up less real...

Well I'm kind of on it/kind of not. I'm under a faux name because I don't want people, long forgotten by choice, to find me. I use it 100% for Halloween stuff. However I must admit I am on it sporadically.

Yes that's where I saw them. Your doing an awesome job!!!!
  4. Buying. I had the opportunity to buy a mold and make my own but figured it's easier to just buy them. I found a great source on Haunter's Hangout and the skulls are nicely detailed and inexpensive. I'll likely get some more as our theme this year will be "skull heavy", whatever that means. I take it you're on Haunter's Hangout?
