I am not sure just where make & take announcements go... Haunters! Saturday, May 20 is time for a treasure hunt! You don't even need to be a pirate, but feel free to wear a tricorn hat and eye patch anyway. Look out in the garage, the shed, the storage unit, up in the attic, and down in the basement (ooooh, the basement!) for those unused but interesting items you've been meaning to "haunt" but just aren't certain how. Or, like an old crush, maybe they used to be interesting, but now...

Haven't found my pictures from 2015 or 2016. :( Had 2 laptops crash & lost everything. Hoping the Husband has pics on his computer. Decorating & decision for shop locations will begin much earlier this year since we'll be in the new house. Already decided Madame Faboolous' shop will be in the "bar/entertainment room" My ouija board table will be in this room permanently when we make the move. The table will go right in front of the window so we can sit there and watch the sun sets year...

Lots of 80's Horror Flicks. As for doing a gremiln, there is always the option of carving foam insulation!! So much can be done with that and paint for a lot of the 80's films! Can't wait to see all the ideas here.

Our theme this year is a witch coven, with the main yard display being a witch forest setting. The idea is to have it look like a small clearing in a forested area, inhabited by three witches, related creatures, dead trees, stumps, a couple of witch grave stones and miscellaneous things that would tie in with the scene. We want to have some witch totems, in addition to the lanterns, give the set some visual interest and depth. Using the cheap foam skulls from Michaels, I made a couple...

Thank you. I'll keep a look out and search Etsy. People always make wonderful things and sell them on there too. I've even came across some old shirts from back in the 80's. :)

Thank you. I plan to get a bandcamp account because I'm always checking out different kinds of music. Music is a wonderful thing and I always look for great sound effects and music for halloween or music in general to listen too during the day. It's what makes me happy of many things. The theme from X-Files is something I've always used and themes from horror movies. They always make the atmosphere great during Halloween. The Amityville Horror theme really spooks me out. I can listen to that...

They probably won't because those props are for the masses, the "normals," not us Halloween-Is-A-Lifestyle-Not-A-Holiday folks. They're made cheaply in China, marked up just enough to be at an attractive price point for the folks that are just having a party on one night & then that's it. If you want a good prop you have to go to a Distortions or any of the other companies that make good masks & props. They're not cheap but then they're not cheaply made either. Or, as many do here, make...

This show was so amazing it was AH-MAH-ZING!! Five seasons & a real ending. GO BINGE IT NOW!! You listenin' WD folks, Kirkman, Gimple, Nicotero? THAT'S how you do a series! Cuse learned from Lost & gave us a proper ending. He got a do over just like Norma & Norman did. I am really going to miss this show. I actually cried like a baby at the end.

It Honestly, I can only tell the difference when you put all the papers side by side. I could see using it on backdrops but at that price it might be cost prohibitive.

Brick & mortar stores have been cutting back for years. Remember when Walmart would sell blow molds, tons of props, tons of decor, all in-store? I do. Now most of their stuff is online. Some stores would skip Halloween all together if they could, but then there's some like HomeGoods that have stepped in where the others leave off. Halloween in-store, like everything else, won't go away completely, but it will change & keep changing. I also think that the seasonal stores will continue...

I did a quick, late trip to the now-biannual Design Toscano warehouse sale. By Day 2 pretty much anything one would want is likely to be gone, but that was part of the plan. Still, I came home with a partial but still very cool Zombie of Montclair Moors for $7; a Grim Reaper tombstone missing the scythe blade and a few small dings overall for $5; a nice walking stick for $5; and a barely damaged steampunk skull for $9. ...

Hi, Hilda! I would love to submit a couple of your fabulous yard display photos for this upcoming article, but I would not do so without your permission. I will take no offense if you prefer not to share, but your yard is so great. Let me know what you think!

Wow! Just like old times. I thought I'd lost that skill.

    Thanks for letting me know.

Congratulations on the limb removal. I was worried you were gonna be stumped. We've had so many in-laws visiting I'm thinking of putting my family tree through the wood chipper. I'll be here all week.

Looks like we CAN just scrap the stupid paint off the mirror. Just gotta figure out what nasty little tool is safest for the glass. (My keys scratch everything else up, figured it might work on the paint.)

I am shocked - SHOCKED I tell ya. You mean there's just a mere mortal behind the curtain?

We initially wondered about the mirror but we saw another one there which had a scratch through the paint and thought...How hard could it be? We'll mess around.

It's not so much the organ part. Just looking for some kind of material that would be flexible enough to bend around a corner while strong enough to hold it's shape. We could buy rolls of veneer but it's not super cheap and I don' t know how well it would hold up without a backing. But I appreciate the response. Hope all is going well.

Hey you! Hope setup is going well.

I got two questions for the expert.
    1) We bought a mirror from Micheals that had a skull screened on the front of it - we want to take that off. Seems like a real mirror (it's heavy). Would the stuff you recommend for removing paint off blowmolds work? We don't want to damage the glass (I think the frame is a resin.)
    2) Working on the organ...we're modelling it very loosely on the Haunted Mansion version. The wood curves in the area where the keyboard is. Any thoughts on what we could user there? You just seem to know stuff.

No worries if you're too busy with setup to reply. We'll figure something out.

Those bats are super easy to make
All I did was make a paper bat pattern and transfer the pattern to a light weight piece of black material, cut it out, then I just pinned it to the existing hummingbird body. Painted the motor and ground stake black, and BAM, done
Oh, I painted the hummingbird black too
    Thanks for your nice comments!
