That is a very neat idea using foam camping mats for body forms. I was thinking about doing a duct tape body form for under my witches. I was going to go over the outside with a couple layers of paper mache so it makes it stiffer and the inside can remain hallow. I have a feeling that your idea will hold up better. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Made some pretty good finds today at several yard sales and a thrift store. I found 2 tombstones, 2 skulls (one was a bit bigger than life sized and has movable jaw. Pretty stoked about that one.), 1 Giant hanging Grim Reaper, (the face is almost 2 feet in diameter), a couple of Witch hats, 2 large books, some chain, some purple and orange mini light strings, a red velvet skirt, and fabric that I can use to dress my witches. A couple weeks back I found some new never used RV...

J-Man. Thanks for the warning. I hope that doesn't happen with mine. Maybe our cool weather will help keep it from over heating. I plan on giving it as much open space around the motor as possible. I'm thinking of giving the structure a full hoop skirt and putting the motor down in the skirt area.

Halstaff thanks for the videos. Very creative and very helpful. How was it covering the arm of the Santa? Did you have any issues with the sleeve getting caught in the rods?

LOL!! After going through various posts in this forum, I see a lot of future builds for me. I'll be working year round on all sorts of props and coming up with new ideas. This can be an addictive activity. Guess there are worse activities to be addicted to.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We are getting a better idea on how to do what we hope to do. Would love to see your creations Papa Scary and Gym Whoulfeld. Each year I plan on adding more animated and static props to my yard. Right now I don't plan on having one particular theme to my yard, but rather various grouped off scenes. One scene will be my witches around their cauldron. Another scene will be a graveyard with ground breakers and standing moving zombies, another scene will be...

HauntedWyo replied to a thread Mechanical: Motor not fast enough. in Halloween Props
I have been looking at getting a Synchronous geared motor for one of my prop builds. These motors are used for microwave turntables, and vent fans. You can get various RPM speeds and sound like they have pretty decent torque for their small size. Might look at getting a motor for an adjustable car seat or a wiper motor. Looking forward to see what others suggest. I'd look at ebay, or SurplusCenter.com for motors.

I really like your Witch's head/face DoctorGrim. May I ask how you made it so her mouth is open? I plan on making 3 witches and was going to use styrofoam wig heads. I would like each witch to have different expressions. I would like to have at least 2 of them with open mouths and teeth showing. Wasn't sure if I needed to cut the lower section of the head off from the middle of the lips down and re-attach with the mouth open, or if I built up with clay or mache. I saw a YouTube video of...

Thanks for the great idea. I am wanting to make an open book for one of my witches to hold in her hands. I was thinking about making it from styrofoam, but I might be able to make something like this work instead. I would have to hallow out the pages to make it lighter though. Going to hit up yard sales and thrift stores to look for all sorts of supplies to make Halloween props with, or to use with props. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for a large book.

Thank-you Sharon3106 for the welcome. I am currently working on a 3 foot tall by about 3 foot wide cauldron that I plan on putting 3 animated witches around. Each witch will have different movements. I got hands made for one witch, just about finished with the hands of another witch and will need to get the 3rd witch's hands made. Then I will need to work on their heads/faces. The first witch will be stirring the cauldron, I will be revamping the cauldron creep a little. The second witch will...

Thank-you harboe69 for the video link. I'll have my husband take a look at it and see if he can figure it out. He is more mechanical than I am. Just kinda needed a place to start in figuring out how to put together the frame and what all we needed to do with the motor to make it work. If anyone else has a link with instructions that would also be helpful. Thanks again.

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I am a middle aged mom of 5 and grandmother to 2 and live in the beautiful state of Wyoming. Back in the early 2000's I threw together a haunted house for a organization I belonged to at the time in about a month. I had no experience whatsoever in putting one together and we were on a very limited budget. Thanks to my crafty skills and the help of my husband I managed to make various simple props and gave roles to actors. The haunted house was an overall...

Hello all I am new here, but have been stopping by from time to time to get ideas for props to haunt my yard with. I am currently making a large cauldron about 3 foot tall by 3 foot wide. I plan on making three animated witches to go around the cauldron. One witch will be stirring, one will be turning her head back and forth and I would like to make the third one that has an arm going up and down. I have all the mechanics and motors figured out for the first 2. Doing a take of the Cauldron...
