This is what I struggle with as well, for lack of a better way to put it. We've been doing a haunt for over 20 years and we've developed a loyal following. We now have older teens and young adults who come by and tell us they've been coming to our house since they were young. Parents tell us how much they like coming each year and how they appreciate what we do to give kids a fun Halloween. I think of the void we'd leave if we just stopped doing it so hopefully we can scale back gradually and...

Thanks. I thinjk it was like $10.00 or somewhere close. I'll put a bat or a crow in it, something creepy.

Thanks Ana! I just happened to walk by this easel and figured I could use it. It works perfectly.

Doing little accent props for our witch house. Bought an old book from a thrift store. Aged the cover with paper mache and some paint/dry brush. Printed a couple spells off and stained the paper with a coffee filter. Set it on the easel I got on clearance from Michaels and it came out pretty fair. This will sit someplace in the main room of the haunt.

Mine wasn't planned....It was thrown in my face = absolute frustration on a very stormy night on the last Saturday night of October 2012....Party night was canceled....Unbelievable amount of work for one day a year that will probably rain 9 times out of 10....The rest of the year I stored enough Halloween crap to fill a warehouse anywhere I could cram it where I live.....Ended up clearing about 80% and have been in limbo since.....Problem is it's still my favorite holiday and I want to...

Hello Andrew, welcome to the forum!.... "I would love to open a warehouse/industrial unit" OK...That means a commercial event which takes you out of home haunt territory and into commercial pro territory....Not sure what the rules are where you live but here in the US, that means enough rules to make your head spin - basically to keep the public safe and you from being personally sued....You'd have much better luck talking to the folks at Hauntworld fright forum, they better represent the...

Good post and one I identify with. We had actually planned to scale way back three years ago. I was pretty much a one man set-up/tear down crew, and while we had ample help working the walk through haunt on Halloween, come 11/1 I was tearing down all by myself and it got to be a chore. Along came fellow haunter and forum member "lewlew" who lived not too far from me and who's own awesome haunt was on hiatus. We agreed to do a collaborative effort back in 2014 and while it took up less real...

Yep, I've even seen them thrashed so hard the inner foam core separated from the metal infrastructure.....That's a lot of force!.....If you take care of them they will last for many years....Unless it's a poor design....Then the only remedy is to break the welder out and reinforce it yourself....My Scarefactory Angel of death tombstone needed reworked but luckily, it was already done by the previous owner when I bought it....ZR

I always kept the air turned down to reasonable levels on animatronics and kept the moving parts lubricated.....Sure it doesn't look as cool as the folks that are willing to let their animations thrash themselves to pieces but I didn't have that kind of money to burn.....High pressure not only wears out the mechanics faster but also tears the latex rubber in places where it's constantly flexing.....I'm sure either of those would be a cool addition....In that price range, I really like this one...

Home Depot has these "edison" lights that are a soft amber colored. They should give off plenty of light, but not as glaring as regular bulbs.

I forgot to post the rest of my thank-yous, and one of these days (probably when I end up having to get a new phone), I will be able to upload pics again... I apologize - to say my life has been a little chaotic lately would be an understatement.....but on with the thank-yous! I had thanked hallorenescene earlier in this thread, but it can't hurt to say it again...;) Araniella, that cute little pig brought a smile to my face, so for that, I thank you.... hallowmas, I always dig your...

I'm putting this info out here for anyone who may be holding gift cards that can't be redeemed. Another forum member who has requested to remain anonymous, shared this with me. If you've done business with HA in the past several months, you, like myself, may have noticed your credit card bill or paypal invoice listed Action Figure Planet instead of HA. I knew that they were into action figures and looking to start this venture. A google search revealed a facebook page for AFP and there are...

LOL....I hope you guys are right!....I guess that's one of the reasons I wanted to start this thread early on in the process hoping to give others a little inspiration from my trials and errors and hopefully get some people that want to give it a whirl themselves to go for it!.....This is an awesome community of talented folks and it would be very interesting to see how others approach it.....I started cutting out a new tombstone last night so I'll post pictures as that comes along....Thanks...

I was thinking about your foam walls for your walk through, you might be wasting your time with my grommet idea. I think it will take too much time and still might not look very good. My new idea is to use vinyl "j-channel". This is the stuff they use for putting up siding around windows. You could attach strips to the sides of your walls (you already have the bottom taken care of with the 2x4.) , then feed the foam through the top. It would hold like a piece of glass in a picture frame. I think it would give a cleaner look and would be an easier way to remove the foam.
It's just an idea so if you don't like it, no harm done. I am also not sure how tight the channel would be against the foam. You may have to research that.

    PS
Just another thought, you could run the channel horizontally in lieu of vertical to save money and avoid the seam between panels.
