Jeff Death is featuring one of our haunt photos from last year as this weeks "picture of the week. The pic is an actor wearing one of his masks and hands. Needless to say, were flattered! Pic link to Death Studios home page. Scroll down a bit to see photo http://www.deathstudios.com/Masks/Index.cfm/go:site.Page/Page:1/index.html

The front yard display portion of our haunt will be a witch forest scene. There will be a coven of three witches, one stirring a cauldron, and some movement on at least one of the others. We'll have a couple of tombstones, tree stumps, skeletons, rats, bats, toads, etc... Should be a nice, creepy witchy scene for folks to look at before they make it to the walk through portion

That's really a great looking mask! Good witch masks are not easy to come by but I like that one a lot!

In one of the tutorial videos, I recall he said that it's about a 6 hour project. This would not include the drying time for the glue/paint. I think right now I have 3-4 hours into each one. The painting will be time consuming to get the desired detail. given the amount of time until Halloween, I'm good spending time on them. I don't think I would have started these in September though.

While looking for witch related things for this years haunt, I came across Gourdin Fester's tutorial videos on these really cool looking "rot jars", or witch lanterns/swamp lanterns/whatever you want to call them. I've never worked with paper mache before save for projects in school so this is a fairly new endeavor for me. These are just too cool not to try. We'll have 5 in total in the front yard display part of our haunt and here are some progress pics. Rot Jar 1 - YouTube

These two are being made by DSS, formerly Dark Side Studios. I wanted witches to compliment my Death Studios Swamp Witch, but Death Studios other witches didn't have the look I was after. Dark side had these two and they'll look great with Swamp Witch.

Can you describe the space? How much area do you have to work with? one car? two car?. Is the garage attached to your home or detached? We've used our garage before and now have a free standing structure that is 12' wide by 24' long. How many visitors do you normally have on Halloween? This would determine what you need to do for traffic flow (having both an entrance and exit door vs just a space where people walk in and look around. Give some more info and it would be easier to give...

I am almost done with my victim, a few more things to go, I wanted to do some crafting, but life has thrown a lot of stress at me, so I just plain am not up to it. so everything is thrift store or regular store bought, unless I decide last minute to do something

I have a length of waxed twine that I used for a handle on my latest one. I think it will hold up well. You an easily coat twine with beeswax to give it a protective quality. The twine handle was so much easier than the wire too!!

I discovered Raison d'être through John Wolfe's Season of Shadows website a few years ago and really like them. Some Halloween themed artists I've found are Shadows Symphony and Audio Zombie. Of course there's Nox Arcana, Midnight Syndicate and Verse 13 too. There's several dark ambient artists on Cryo Chamber that I like. They also have a few free samplers too! The cool thing about bandcamp is that in most instances you can sample the whole song instead of 30-second excerpts that most...

I think this might be what I need to get back into the swing of things. :) For everyone thinking about large eggs, you could always paper mâché over a balloon if you can't find the size you need. I've found that about five layers makes a pretty sturdy form.

Thanks so much and hope that everyone is finding 2017 a great year! We've dealt with a few more losses so far and there's only been one week so far where one of us hasn't had had the latest cold or virus that's going around. :( I do find that in my down time, I seem to get the best ideas, so I'm eager to get back to work. Oddly, my first project isn't going to be Halloween related but instead a birthday present for my little girl's second birthday. Still in the process of setting up a new...

Mmmm... Looks tempting! Oddly enough, I haven't made a pot of coffee all winter. Of course, I drank the most while I was working on paper mâché projects and I haven't tackled anything for months now. :( If I see it and have enough in the grocery fund, I'll likely grab a bag. :)

It's about 19 inches between the wing tips. I recall these being sold by Big Lots a few years ago but haven't seen them since and not sure who makes them. I paid 10 for this and remember them being about $16.00 when new? Check ebay and also some of the online Halloween retailers to see if they still carry them. Might still be available.

Thought I'd share my first attempt at making my own inflatable tombstone.....Many things I learned not to do but glad at least to have a working model on the first try....I never really sewed before so I really did start at step one.....Grabbing the wife's sewing machine and the manual to figure out how to thread the thing to even get started.....You sew inside out and then pull it through, figured that out after a few stitches into it....Don't sew one way and then start sewing from the other...

I was thinking about your foam walls for your walk through, you might be wasting your time with my grommet idea. I think it will take too much time and still might not look very good. My new idea is to use vinyl "j-channel". This is the stuff they use for putting up siding around windows. You could attach strips to the sides of your walls (you already have the bottom taken care of with the 2x4.) , then feed the foam through the top. It would hold like a piece of glass in a picture frame. I think it would give a cleaner look and would be an easier way to remove the foam.
It's just an idea so if you don't like it, no harm done. I am also not sure how tight the channel would be against the foam. You may have to research that.

    PS
Just another thought, you could run the channel horizontally in lieu of vertical to save money and avoid the seam between panels.
