They had some interesting game shows a few years back. The one in total darkness, and there was another where people stood like statues, and at a certain time they were released to go and hunt the contestant. Anyone remember these?

I have 24 pose and stay skeletons in our inventory. The first one my wife got years ago from Grandin Road for $90. And we once had several bucky ones that have mostly been replaced now, but I have managed to take a couple of those and using 1/2" PVC to redo them and make them a little more sturdy. There is a video someone posted on how to make them posable with PVC if you are looking for a very inexpensive solution. As for the Pose and stay we have picked them up for as little as $30...

I check a week ago and the page for it wasn't even showing and it stayed that way until yesterday. They are selling out fast. Went to look yesterday and they had them online again and FREE shipping. I finally got two ordered yesterday and it says they will be here next Tuesday. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited now.

We use scene setters to decorate our garage every year for Halloween night. We have 15 different scene setters that we rotate to match a lot of our themes for the year. The big thing is that we only purchase the ones that are 8' Tall and we span about 60 feet. The rafters in the garage are 9' up so yes an 8' scene setter doesn't quite make it to the top. The solution we found is that we take black plastic, cut it and tape it to the top of the scene setter to make the 9' span. Yes scene...

This may be a "record", even for me. Today I used a piece of steel that I have had in my parts collection for maybe 25 years! I never used it before because it wasn't a normal piece of steel beam of a common shape. It is beyond a 90 degree bend, then the shorter end of the design has a few odd little 90 degree bends, but today all of this oddity became a ceiling beam in a small room . It was originally part of the frame of a refrigerated case from a Grocery Store.

On another forum the question was :"How does one maintain their enthusiasm for Halloween and keep motivated?" My answer was:"I like an "Audience", that stimulates me. My audience is on the next hill watching me. It's the City Grave Yard in which most of my Mother's and my Father's familys have been buried for 150 years. My Great grandfather even tended Bar right here in my Haunted House during the 1880s for 7 to 8 years of his life. I grew up living in his old house another valley "Over"....

Over these last 30 years we have had phone calls and E-Mails from people who would want to work here in October. Some assume they would be living with us because this old house is huge, but only the part we live in is livable and the rest is "Haunted House". We have had couples work here, but unfortunately we are interested in them "working" here not the drama of "He-Said-She Said" while everyone else is actually paying attention to the task at hand and making this house operate more...

I will agree with J-Man on the fact that you will need a prop controller to make this happen. I know a lot of people use Arduino controllers with relay switches to make this happen and it is something that i am looking into getting as well. As for the motor I would suggest a wiper motor. Hooked to 12V from a power supply might give you the RPM your looking for. If you search arduino controllers and watch you-tube videos on them you will get a good idea of what is possible. As J-MAn...

In "Season" we have Tour guides who lead people in groups through the house. Each group has a Leader and a Follower. There are also some workers here who have a "Station" where they wait for the tour to pass by , although often the "Follower" could also be in those locations. The dialog of the tour is flexible and can be changed by the employee leading the tour. For some reason ("Rebellion"? ) many times they simply walk through the house making fun of ME! (Which I have no trouble with.)

I try to make an arm like a Teeter-Totter with a counter-weight to remove the strain from any motor no matter how small or weak it may be. Having an actual bearing also helps , versus just a hole drilled into "something". I was given a strong electric motor from a "Toast-Making " machine. (A conveyor slowly running bread into and out of the machine) I found two stiff springs and they helped the 15foot long piece of PVC which was the artillery barrel for the motorcycle with a sidecar. I...

In such situations as I described (late night, last tour, small group) I have quite an advantage to scare or entertain those people. I can take even more time and lull them, until the un foreseen Scare arrives... yes there are some old "Fans" who have come to realize this over the years and try to be here for that last "Show" of the night.

I could see you working in a UK tourist attraction like a Castle where there would be no chainsaws but you could quietly pretend to be a statue , then come to life, scaring most people. Before I met my Wife she traveled to England and experienced this very thing. After the scare, you may be able to visit with those you scared and there by meet people, interact with them normally.

"Giddy-Up! and away I went for several hours doing the last house tour of the night! I was adding numerous ad-libs in with the actual routine, and my tiny audience was "Lovin It!" We were ALL Laughing for most of the time! "He" had been here before "She" had not been here. I was so charged-up that I felt as if it was 15 years ago! (Subtracting 15 years from my current age of 67 , makes quite a difference in many ways.) I felt So Good, making those people laugh that hours later I was...

I suggest looking into a local charity haunt where maybe they don't have such loud displays and take more actual care with their employees. In this State a criminal back round check is required, as they are checking for child molesters and people who have been caught with a prostitute. As a new Haunt worker, you should be working close by with an experienced haunter. Always keep an arm's length of distance between you and a haunt customer. IF a haunt patron comes right at you, back up. If...

Damn! I just did some checking on your place. You made me curious with tidbits I've picked up here and there. I was so surprised to see where you are. I have a house in Dubuque, with a sister in LaMotte. And you're just across the river. Small world. Next time I'm up in Iowa I'll try to make it to your haunt. I only get up about once or twice a year. Damn, small world.

Haunted house as defined by...

by Gym Whourlfeld on 02-03-2015 at 05:49 PM
Elderly citizens telling you not to buy it because "It's HAUNTED!"

It has a huge wine cellar below the level of the basement.
It had been vacant for two years
It had been condemned.
It had big holes straight through the roof.
it had maybe a dozen broken windows
the house was full of worthless junk and junk appliances
Former tennants began telling my about their personal Spooky experiences in this house.
I found out my

"Truth" found within "Fiction"?

She had laid in their bed for two weeks now.
She laid as if getting up had forgotten how
He loved her and her only
He loved her hotly and even coldly.
Her work wasn't done, it piled up higher
He loved her much, with his own desire
Not borrowed from a book
Nor copied from a movie
His heart felt movements
When she would give him her "look"
He began washing dishes
Changing water of her fishes

"I want to know about your haunted house."
"What exactly would you like to know?"
"Is it really haunted?" "Yes it is, but not like a Hollywood horror movie and the incidents don't happen here all the time, you could take the tour here 30 times and never have a supernatural experience."
"Do you live in that house?"
"Yes we do, ever since I got it now 25 years ago."
"I would be very nervous living

Quite the Audience Last January!

by Gym Whourlfeld on 01-22-2010 at 03:54 AM
Four artistic, creative , very successfull people, who know very well what is required to entertain the public and make a living doing it.
Several times they "paid" me with their spontaneous applause!
Very impressed, even as they neared the final steps out the exit.
You never know who is going to be coming through your door.(So I treat them all the same)
It obviously is Not just all about "The Money".

As I turned to my Wife I was to say, "I love you."
My throat suddenly "caught" (for want of a better description) and all that eminated from me was sort of a low "oowww!" (the "You" of "Love you")
She immitated the sound back at me and two big yellow male cats in the room scampered and made fast tracks out of the room, into the bedroom, and hid under the bed!?
It was just too much evil fun not to try it again, and again as
