Been sick most of the week and still recuperating so never got out to locate the special tip screwdriver I need. I really don't have any idea how these things work. When I get it opened up I'll take pics.

Thanks for the video Danski. Love the barrel you found for him to sit on.

If you are looking for pirate's chest, it's Disney's POTC merchandise and looks really cool in person. I too think if you are seriously thinking about it to get it before too much time goes by and they become difficult to find and more expensive. I paid around $30 for mine and think it was worth it. Not sure what the retail price of it was. I thought the chest was kind of heavy and the handles on the side help in carrying. The plastic isn't cheap, nicely molded and the light up heart and...

Gee are you sure you would be happy with a chest with no CD capability? Does the Input work so you can play from a mp3 etc.?

Wish I would have stopped into Joann's last year when they had those bone candelabras. They'll make a great display. How many candles do they hold? The chest....really?! I've been pretty lucky with my eBay purchases over the years. I was glad my shipping box didn't get dropped along the way and everything worked fine. The lid was a bit tricky to open on mine as it didn't pop open when I pressed the button on the "latch". Don't know if you got directions with yours or not but did you make...

I bought one of these Gemmy LED Lightshow Countdown Projectors from HD on clearance hoping to block out the "Countdown to Christmas" text and just use the clock portion for my Halloween display. Has anyone opened one of these guys up yet? I need to find a special screwdriver to access the unit so thought I would ask in the meantime. Curious how the text is projected (hoping maybe the text is a cutout mask which the LED light shines through and could be blocked inside the unit). BTW if...

ah, hope it already shipped. I've had eBay items ship out but take a day or two afterwards to send email to me or update with tracking on their site. Some sellers also only ship out on select days too which delays it. The weather around the US has been pretty crappy. Fortunately for me my seller was in the same state as me so even though I was quoted longer it arrived 2 days early. There are lots of places for pirate audio sounds so doubt you'll have any trouble finding something. Even a...

I recognized a few of those items from photos you posted earlier in the year! Your shopping is all coming together really nicely. Your photo of the POTC treasure chest cd player influenced me to buy a used one off eBay LOL. Thought about it and it just looked so nice. It arrived yesterday and very pleased. I have a pirates chest that I found in the toy dept at TJMaxx a few years back which I thought was decent looking but this POTC one blows that one away in looks. And love the heart! The...

What's a castle without a moat! Nice feature if you can add one. I looked at the video Machiavellian and my guess would be that they created a slight wall or support of some kind that would allow something like plexiglass to lay on top of it. Underneath did their lighting, added faux rocks coming out of the molten moat and piped in low lying fog over or around the surface to look like steam. Agree what they did looks pretty good. At first I was thinking maybe it was a man-made pond of sorts...

If anyone is looking for Gemmy's Short Circuit bulb, noticed that Walmart has them marked down to 5.23. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Short-Circuit-Bulb/53082466 Also surprised to find Walmart selling what I bought as an LED string light device called "String-it". https://www.walmart.com/ip/Generic-WK639738-Rock-Your-Room-Lighting-Show-Lamp-Blue/35597093 17.71. I used one of these in our Brain Research Lab a few years back. Here's a few photos from that night. It's a cool light and kids like...

Ahh, got what you were thinking. I should have been more clear. While I like storing the lights with stakes on, I don't want to limit myself to that on the rare chance I decide to mount it on a trellis, fence or in a tree where the stake might be in the way. Good to know that you store yours with stakes and haven't had a rusting problem. Thanks for all the feedback.

Hmm are we both talking about the raw metal bolt portion of the stake? Wouldn't paint or plasti-dip (which I've used before) prevent the stake from being removed from the fixture. I ended up ordering a roll of black plastic twist tie wire off eBay ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/65ft-20m-Plastic-Oval-Twist-Tie-roll-with-cutter-for-general-use/322092319139 ). Plan to secure a length of it to each lighting frame so the tie will always be there and I can tie up the electrical cord when ready to...

Didn't think to ask before but for those that store their lights minus the box, do you guys leave your ground stakes on them when you store? I'm thinking since all of my uses of them so far have been ground placed, I'm going to do that to save me time setting up and storing afterwards. Just a wipe down of stake and light and twist tie the cord before putting in the tote. The stake base covers part of the colored tape when it's screwed in but as long as I run the tape to the outer bracket ends...

I can see incorporating it for things like a furnace/incinerator (with battery operated flames inside, red lighting) or a portal window in a sub with fish hanging down and battery illuminated but honestly given the size and weight of the appliance I would more welcome the free pick up disposal most appliance stores offer. Easy enough to better replicate those scenes with lighter weight stuff anyway. So my 2 cents would be to say good bye to it. BTW hope you don't have one of those Samsung...

Yes, that is unreal! Never seen anything like it. Love the live heart inside. Very cool look on the outside too. I have the POTC Dead Man's Chest Dice game and the talking skull and cross bones room alarm but never saw the cd player. Know I would have remembered it. Controls are pretty hidden which is really nice. Dang Saki.girl you always do such great setups with lots of wonderful detail and you have come up with some great finds for this year too. Thanks so much for sharing. dbruner,...

and adding two colors would indicate something like orange (red/yellow) or purple (blue/red). The black well I guess could indicate blacklight or just be used for other stuff.

Looks good J-Man! I was able to watch the video BTW. I was wondering how the random body movement would look but I'm fine with what I saw. I'm getting excited thinking of what to do with a talking parrot in my haunt scenes. Of course he works in a pirate theme, but could see him in a carnival maybe talking to a ventriloquist dummy or to a magician as he's about to saw a body in two. He could be in an office or haunted house theme as the owners bird. I have a nice big cage he'll fit in that...

Regarding the spyglass, not sure what you had in mind for it but it might be fun to hide a visible-by-spyglass clue on a roof, house window, or in a tree in your yard or a neighbors. I'd add a working compass too. Clue could be something like "with spyglass and compass in hand walk 20 paces outside of back door and turn due east, 10 more paces and turn north. Seek the answer to what you see". BTW really like those map pencil cases. Did you order yours from a seller in China? if so wondering...

Thanks everyone for sharing your method. I picked up a pack of electrical tape (thin width and in 6 colors) from Home Depot last night. Will work great for the majority of my lights. Might use nail polish on my purple and orange spots or do a blue/red and red/yellow tape on those. The nail polish colors these days are pretty much all over the place so not hard to find those colors. Will probably keep my fire & ice and kaleidoscope lights in their own boxes since they aren't a solid color...
