I'm unable to make this but thought some of you in the Bay Area may be interested. If anyone goes, Let me know if you find anything good. Thrillpeddlers, a San Francisco-based theatre company specializing in 'Grand Guignol' horror plays, fetish performance, and lights-out spookshows, is closing their doors. They have to have everything packed up by the end of February, so they're throwing a big rummage sale. Scour through the rummage sale to find set pieces, costumes, props, books, odds...

LOL! We were really surprised to see it and it was nice that he thought enough of the pic to give it mention. His masks are so life like it's amazing!

We live a block away from a busy elementary school so we get the buzz going a few weeks before. We normally put our cemetery fence and columns out the first week of October. We'll add a couple things each week, usually inexpensive tombstones, or props that can be secured against theft, etc. If we do the cemetery scene in the yard display, we'll set it all up a couple days before with lights, etc but any expensive props don't go out until Halloween day itself. Our haunt structure goes up a week...

Thanks! I think it's one of our favorites from last year. Lewlew nailed the lighting with a small blacklight spot. The mask and costume really popped in the darkened room. He got a lot of great reactions from guests when they walked into the last room!

How did you loosen up the joints in the shoulders and elbows? I've got a pose-n-stay skelly I'm starting to try to transform into one of these gravediggers. Also did you have to change the position of any of the arm sections with a heat gun or anything like that? Thanks for any help!

The front yard display portion of our haunt will be a witch forest scene. There will be a coven of three witches, one stirring a cauldron, and some movement on at least one of the others. We'll have a couple of tombstones, tree stumps, skeletons, rats, bats, toads, etc... Should be a nice, creepy witchy scene for folks to look at before they make it to the walk through portion

In one of the tutorial videos, I recall he said that it's about a 6 hour project. This would not include the drying time for the glue/paint. I think right now I have 3-4 hours into each one. The painting will be time consuming to get the desired detail. given the amount of time until Halloween, I'm good spending time on them. I don't think I would have started these in September though.

While looking for witch related things for this years haunt, I came across Gourdin Fester's tutorial videos on these really cool looking "rot jars", or witch lanterns/swamp lanterns/whatever you want to call them. I've never worked with paper mache before save for projects in school so this is a fairly new endeavor for me. These are just too cool not to try. We'll have 5 in total in the front yard display part of our haunt and here are some progress pics. Rot Jar 1 - YouTube

These two are being made by DSS, formerly Dark Side Studios. I wanted witches to compliment my Death Studios Swamp Witch, but Death Studios other witches didn't have the look I was after. Dark side had these two and they'll look great with Swamp Witch.

Can you describe the space? How much area do you have to work with? one car? two car?. Is the garage attached to your home or detached? We've used our garage before and now have a free standing structure that is 12' wide by 24' long. How many visitors do you normally have on Halloween? This would determine what you need to do for traffic flow (having both an entrance and exit door vs just a space where people walk in and look around. Give some more info and it would be easier to give...

I have a length of waxed twine that I used for a handle on my latest one. I think it will hold up well. You an easily coat twine with beeswax to give it a protective quality. The twine handle was so much easier than the wire too!!

It's about 19 inches between the wing tips. I recall these being sold by Big Lots a few years ago but haven't seen them since and not sure who makes them. I paid 10 for this and remember them being about $16.00 when new? Check ebay and also some of the online Halloween retailers to see if they still carry them. Might still be available.
