I have to say that I'm enamored with your art dolls. There's something about the eyes in particular that snatch one's attention.
I have been toying with how to go about making a Brian Froud-inspired changeling doll for some time, and have tried to broaden my knowledge of doll making (which was nill to start with) by reading up on techniques. The doll will be quite long-limbed, and this has been a bit of a worry for me. I would like to do a wire armature, but I'm not sure about the mechanics of wire distribution and strength. I want the doll to be able to stand or crouch, and seeing some of your dolls like Lavinia and Thistle standing without visible support, I was wondering if you would be willing to share any advise. For one, what gauge and type of wire do you use? Do you double or triple your wires in the body and/or limbs? Is there anything you do to make sure the balance of the form is maintained (having a heavy clay-sculpted head is a concern of mine)? Any help or advise on the basics of creating a lanky body-form would be hugely appreciated. If you would prefer to discuss any of this off of Halloween Forum, feel free to email me at
