Another question actually... Is monster mud sand-able? I'm just wondering if it can be carved into and sanded after application for detail work.

Sounds like a really good idea. Have you tried this, or is it just a hunch? :) I assume this will waterproof it and protect it from crumbling in the rain?

Hey all. I've never tried building anything with monster mud. I was wondering if it's the best way to build columns and stones for the graveyard. I've heard that it can deteriorate in rain... that's a bit concerning. I'd hate to put a bunch of work into it and have it crumble. Does exterior paint seal it well enough? There's obviously no chance I'm going to be bring in graveyard columns and stones each night. Is there a better technique for building columns than MM?

Lovely plan. Any other takers?:D Actually, the suits of armor come in periodically, not just during one season. Having handled them, I can say that they are basically a heavy grade of aluminum foil:p Really, they are decent quality for the price.

Hell, add busts to that list, too...

Hey all. Looking for some ideas for aging poseable skeletons. The ones from Home Depot leave a little to be desired from that standpoint. The last time I aged a skeleton the "in thing" was using gel wood stain. Is that still the best way? Are there better ways? I don't want it to be too dark as to disappear in the graveyard, but want enough so that it doesn't look so two-dimensional. Also, these poseable skeletons from Home Depot aren't too articulate. I'm wondering if anyone has found an...

Great tip, brimagic! I appreciate that. Just curious, what are the downfalls of cheap fog juice? Toxic residue? Or does is crust up the fogger?

Excellent! If this was going to be available in stores, I'd be waiting on the front sidewalk like kids camping out in front of Best Buy on Thanksgiving. :) Great work! I really think the pose is what makes it unique.

LOL! So true. Maybe I'm overthinking it. I can always try both and if I don't like it, go with another option. I really like Godcrusher's idea. I remember setting up fog one year (the first year I did it) and the wind on Halloween killed the effect so I never tried it again. Being in a new house I was thinking of trying again. I think I'll have both set up and see what tickles my fancy. Any other thoughts? I think both effects are great, but wondering which others seem to like more.

So, I purchased a lightning storm simulator for my haunt, but now I'm torn. What looks better? The creepiness of low-lying fog in the graveyard, or a lightning and thunderstorm effect?? I don't think both at the same time makes sense. The weather conditions that lead to a lightning storm don't normally produce fog. I'm struggling with it now though. Maybe I'll do lightning storm for the days leading up to Halloween, and then the fog effect on the night of Halloween? Maybe switch back...

After some careful consideration I decided to spring for the new digital 301 unit. I hope it works how I'm thinking it will. I plan to set it up in the garage (Great idea foolishmortal). I'll run a couple of black power cords from the unit out of the garage and over the Halloween archway I have. I wasn't planning to set up the archway, but think it's a good way to get past the front walk. From that point I'll use some standard green extension cords I have and run those to the lights. I'm...

We actually tried dipping each piece of popcorn in Thompson's WaterSeal and placed it in the popcorn cup to dry. Worked nice and they we sprayed the whole thing with a clear coat spray. Placed it out in the yard, and the squirrels still ate it all. Ended up making pieces out of great stuff and painting them.

Thanks all! Great feedback. I'd love to put this unit in the garage, and I have room for it there. The part I'm uneasy about is that the cords would have to cross the front walkway in order to reach lights that would be at the front of the yard. I suppose I could put an archway that goes over the front walk, and simply run it over that. I'll need to find long black extension cords though. :)

I'd love to make one myself, but I have no idea how to do the motors. I'm really electronically illiterate when it comes to adding motors and stuff. Mechanically I'm solid. I really wanted to create one myself, but decided to buy this one. I plan to improve the looks of it, but at least I got the motors and all the moving parts already included. Is there an easy way to find the right motors with power supply, etc.?

Hey all. I'm considering getting a Firefly controller to simulate lightning for my graveyard this year. I'm curious if anyone here has some feedback on how well it works etc. If you're using a different controller, I'd be curious to hear about it. Also, if you're using one of these, how are you securing it? These simulators aren't cheap and I'm curious if you're keeping it inside and running the power cords out a window, etc. I can't imagine putting it in a box behind a bush considering they...

Those gargoyles are stunning, tzgirls123. Great purchases all around. First is from TJMaxx and the second is from Marshalls/HomeGoods combo store, although they will likely both wind up carrying much of the same merchandise as time progresses. Each was $12.99.
