I generally keep everything I purchase or build, even if it doesn't go with the current year's theme, because my kids have told me that when I get tired of "haunting", they want to divide all my stuff up between them so it will still be used. Makes me happy to know that everything will continue to scare and surprise TOTs, both here in Dallas and in Austin, too!

Love this discussion! I used to love Halloween in the 70s just as much (if not more) than Christmas, because we used to get more stuff! Everything from toys, money, and of course, lots and LOTS of candy. We lived in Houston then, and we walked miles from home trick or treating. Just my sisters and I. We even went through the apartment complexes in the neighborhood, and believe it or not, everyone answered their doors!!! Also, every third house had a haunted house or mad scientist lab set...

5 or 6 years ago, I bought a 6 foot mummy at a yard sale for $5. It's only made of Styrofoam with gauze wrapped around it (very lightweight), but it's still very creepy and always gets a lot of attention when displayed. Never knew if the old owners made it themselves or if they bought it until 3 years ago when I saw the very same figure in the Grandin Road catalog for $99. Could not be happier with my purchase.

We did a swamp theme last year complete with a water-filled swamp, alligators, a bridge covered in Spanish moss, voodoo priestess, zombies, Palladino, and yes, even a graveyard with a mausoleum. Everyone LOVED it. Plenty of photo ops. A lot of work, but also lots of fun. I love the idea of the masked ball, though.

Our theme this year is House of Bones (nothing but skeletons of all sizes , shapes, and species. Besides having to walk through a menagerie of animal skeletons, once the TOTs reach the main porch, they will be met with lifesized skeletons reaching for them unexpectedly. My husband plans on wearing one of those skeleton costumes that are all black except for the bones (of course) and stand on the porch with the static skeletons. Then when the TOTs aren't paying any attention to him, he will...

Like I said in the thread, I really have to sell my bikes first. I know a bit about engines, but I worry about the endless search for parts. Right now, I have a contact down in California with a running 1952 Caddy, I just need to come up with $4,000. I know I can get at least that much from my bikes, but I don't know if I can do it before he gets another offer.

So, a running classic hearse from the 1940s or early 50s for around $4K-$5K would be perfect. I know that'a asking a whole lot, but that's my "dream purchase".

If you could talk to your friend at Reindeer Manor, that would be great. I'm not opposed to going to Texas for a hearse. Especially if it's the right hearse at the right price! What I'm really hoping for is a classic hearse/ambulance from the 1940s.
