Ha, there is no such thing as to many good deals, glad you took advantage of it
Yup they take all 870 componants , I got a great deal on it, I just had to do some graphic desgn lol
Just saw the new shotgun you got, very nice shotgun. Don't those accept 870 furniture, I heard the are clones and are even better quality than the new 870's remington came out with. I heard this a BS range talk once, curious if its true.
Did you see my new shotgun? I posted it in your firearms thread.
Glad you got that stuff off easily and was able to go out shooting! Bet those cops were sweating approaching you guys lol Glad you had a good time and them leaving you with a smile.
Well, the steamer worked great, baked the stock in the oven at 150* with foil underneath to get the cosmoline out of it as someone recommended. Fired it and no misifre or anything, but the cops joined us. We were doing everything legal, but we were asked to create a new firing area with better backstop. They came walking towards us gun drawn, but I understood why and everything. Made me love the gun more when the cop was asking ?'s and complimented it.
Some people use boiling water to remove only problem is that it is very bad on the wood. Steaming it will work but will take some time because the cosmoline will melt like a candle leaving it sticky still. Since you bore brushed it and there is not much debris just firing it will clean the inside of the barrel. Man I bet you are just eager to get that sucker firing rounds down range! I wish I could join ya I have 6 days off kids, work and gf free! Just me and the dogs lol
I was talking with a guy online who refurbishes them pretty regularly. He said the cosmoline has a melting point at 135*, and to use a hand held steamer. So I am gonna hit it with that, then use some carb cleaner in small spots, then oil the baby, and reassemble. He can do it in 40 minutes flat back to firing order, I'm hoping to do it in 2 hrs. I did get the bore brush out and cleaned the barrel, no pitting and it looks like it was barely fired.
Awesome! gotta love getting a new toy! I cant wait to buy another gun. The quickest way to get the cosmoline off is using a can of quick scrub if you cannot get any of that use automotive brake cleaner works outstanding and will have it off in minutes.
Yup, went to the atm after work and saw I got my tax return. Headed straight for the gun shop and saw my SKS sitting on the rack, grabbed it and was out the door in 15 minutes. I stripped it down, and have the parts sitting in a bin waiting to get steamed and oiled tomorrow to get the cosmoline off. I got a few buddies going shooting tomorrow, so hopefully I can bring along the new toy if i get up early to finish it. I can't remember the last time I was so excited about a new rifle.
