Year's ago I did a walk through roach motel in a hallway of a haunted house. I had raised the floor and built plexiglass trays that slid under the thick plexiglass floor. Filled these with a bunch of breeder roaches that I had raise for over a year planning for this. The hallway was completely dark and I had an IR beam across the middle of the hallway. So as people felt there way into the dark hall, when they got to the middle and tripped the IR beam, it activated lights I had placed on the...

I answered your questions in the facebook post Joven76 but wanted to add it here to for the forums: 1. The glue I use is a fabric adhesive we had in our closet, not sure of the brand as it's old but any non-toxic adhesive will work including hot glue. I think there is something called E9000 fabric spray glue that is similar 2. No release agent needed from the armature, there should be no glue on the inside of the burlap in contact with the armature. I make a long slit with a utility knife...

This is my third mask ever. I had to share with you guys because you guys are awesome. You've helped me come a long way with my yard display. :D I can see the progression from my first to this one and it's a big improvement. Starting to get to a point where I'm happy with the outcome although I'm going to keep on making them and practicing. They're cheap and they're fun to make! The farm tools are just for the picture, they're not used while acting. They'll be used in static props...

Here's a quick DIY for scarecrow masks as I couldn't find anything out there! If there's a tutorial for scarecrow masks out there please link so we can have more info 1. use a plastic drama/face mask. Optional: cover the inside with burlap. 2. build up a liner for the head strip by strip that attaches to the mask. 3. layer additional burlap to your design. 4. paint. Now a couple of tricks I've come across or had to figure out myself: completely soak the burlap for a few minutes...

ok, I'll spill all my secrets....but not tonight, lol. This weekend I'll get some pics up and share what I've learned so far. I know how !@#$ frustrating it is trying to find how-to info on how to make these masks as there's NOTHING out there. Almost everything I've had to figure out myself or deduce from little bits of info here and there. So far I have a pretty solid design I believe although I'm working hard at making it more comfortable as the burlap can be itchy to some people. ...

I wouldn't mind doing a video tutorial on this although the startup costs and time to make the molds for the axe heads/hammer heads may make it a no-go for most people. The painting part would be no problem.

yeah, wood handles and flex foam heads. We sell a bunch of different items each season, I'll only be selling off a few weapons this year though. It's hard to sell stuff because when I finish them I just want to keep everything...lol. I do try to keep advertising and selling out of posts (or as light as possible) though just to keep this a cool DIY and showcase area. If anyone wants info send me a pm and I'll give you info though. This year has been awesome for building. Not sure why or...

Realm of Terror in Chicagoland area that used my foam props. One of the BEST haunted houses in northern IL. Great actors that spill over into the parking lot and scare and terrorize everyone.

One other thing I was told. I've been using my wood-burner for some time now on tombstones so it has quite a build-up of melted foam residue which causes it to not heat up as much. Some people were having trouble controlling the amount of melt with a new, hotter tool. If that's the case with yours try hooking it up to a dimmer switch to better control the amount of heat being put out.

Hey Nick. Thanks! I've got to say I really like your skeleton corpses - totally freaky looking!! And you zombie dog turned out great! Looking forward to seeing your display this year.

For the wood grain you could try using a hot knife tool - practice first on a scrap bit of foam to see how it goes - but you might have more success with a soldering iron or wood burning tool. That's what I used and was able to very lightly draw the tool down the length of the sign from one end to the other to make the wood grain. Vary both the pressure and direction of the grain to make it more realistic. I added the knot holes first and the circular grain surrounding them so it was easier when doing the long grain to go around the knots when you came up on them. Once I had the major grain lines done I used a wire brush to further add the finer grain lines. Go easy with it so you don't destroy your previous work. Everything should be done with a light hand. One other thing to really make your coffin stand out and look more realistic is to make sure and do the end grain on the ends of the boards.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you want me to send you some additional detail pics.
