Hello, my name is Ryan aka Vineyard Haunt. I'm a member of some other Halloween forums and thought I'd come over here and check it out. I began doing a yard display in 2002, which included some store-bought headstones and a few lights and someone (usually me) dressed in a costume handing out candy. It all took a turn last year when, through the combined effort of my kids and all the neighborhood kids, I was pressured into doing a walk-through haunt AND yard display. I began building from scratch in late July 2009 and finished literally Halloween day. I had quite a few good scares that included a drop panel, long, pitch black hallways, a butcher room, custom made lighting, and a fog machine. We had nearly 300 people visit in a mere 3 1/2 hours of being open, and for the most part, the guests said my haunt was as good or better than the one up the highway that cost $15.00 a head to get in. With all the sucess, we had plenty of failures, which I guess is to be expected. My actors and helpers were supposed to show up at 3pm Halloween afternoon so we could get everything planned out, but did not show up untill 5pm. We opened at 6pm, so we did A LOT of improv! My walls took a beating because they we too lightweight in the high-scare zones and needless to say, new doors were created by the guests. I began working on 2010 in November 2009 and have big plans this year. I have a new house 2 doors up the street from my old one, but this one has a huge redwood patio out back where I will do the walk-through. I have heavier-duty walls made, lots more lighting FX including a lightning simulator, tons of new props, and a better plan of opperations. I scrapped the old graveyard I had I will be constructing custom-made headstones. The graveyard this year will feature some animatronics and the singing busts from the Haunted Mansion. I owe a big thanks to forums like this for helping me acheive my goals and answer the endless questions I have. It's good to be here!
