Hello from the mountains of Virginia. Last year I turned my house into a pirate ship, (complete with 15 ft masts), for Halloween. Everyone in town loved it and I'm going to continue the theme this year. I loaded up on fog machines, fog, strobe lights, skeletons, and other random goodies after post Halloween sales.
I'm always looking for new ideas and this forum looks like a great place to learn D.I.Y. haunts! Already in the works for this year: prop cannons connected to a fog machine, cannonballs, animatronic skeleton steering a ship wheel.
