Hi everyone!
I thought I should introduce myself. My name is Chris Howard (IRL), but you can call me Chalice. I'm female (don't let the Chris name fool ya!), just turned 37 and have been married for 12 wonderful years to a man who understands my Halloween addiction.
I've come to this forum to try and find my Halloween spirit again. You see, I just lost my best friend to lung cancer (no, she wasn't a smoker). This friend was the one who was always there for me. She used to help me set up for Halloween, and help me plan my party, and help me make spooky foods... You can see why it's very hard for me to face my first Halloween without her. I decided that rather than wallow in self pity, the best thing for me to do would be to seek a community of folks who "get it" and seek comfort and joy in their celebration of Halloween.
So, I guess I'm here to poke around, read all the wonderful threads and stories and enjoy a community where everyone shares the "hustle and bustle" of the Halloween season. Maybe, just maybe I'll get lucky and find my Halloween spirit again.
Thanks for putting together this wonderful forum, and thank you so much for letting me join it!
Chalice

First of all, I am very sorry for your loss.
Second, welcome. If anyone can help you find your Halloween spirit, it is the members of this forum. I am fairly new here myself. I just dove right in. There are a lot of great people on here...talented, creative, etc. I am sure you will fit right in.

We are deeply sorry for your loss Chalice, and you are with family now. We'll be your friend, your shoulder to lean on, and guide you along the journey back to halloween and your happy place. We "get it", and we're happy that you've found us.
I don't want to just scare them... I want to mess them up for life!

Please accept my condolences on the passing of your friend.
For myself, I like to think that friends live on in the effects they have had and continue to have on us. We carry their spirit, in a sense, with us for the rest of our lives. So friendship never ends and friends are never, ever lost.
So Halloween can be, if you think about it, a way to keep that connection always. There are wonderful times to be remembered, and those memories are the real gifts that friendship brings and leaves with us, even when we're separated. Treasure them. And don't be surprised if you think you hear her chuckling as you set up and celebrate the holiday!Always cut away from yourself...and toward someone else.

Sorry I am a little late to the Welcoming Party, but I am glad you found us!
We party here year around....so I was stuck in the corner with my bag of treats and working on a few props. Didn't notice that a bunch of nooobies had entered. So make yourself at home. Plenty of ideas and "how to's" here, and a great big new family! You will get your Halloween Spirit back here!!!! Hope to see some of your ideas soon. See you around.Today the Pond. Tomorrow The World!
All this has Happened Before and will Happen Again

Welcome Chalice. You and I are about the same age and have been married about the same length of time (I'm 38, and next Feb. will be our 12th anniversary).
I am sorry for your loss. She sounds like a wonderful friend, and I would think she prob. would want you to carry on the Halloween tradition. Everyone here is really great, talented and very creative. Just take your time and I'm sure you'll feel the warm Halloween fuzzies sneaking up on you in no time.
