Wow! What a wonderful way of making sure kids stay out of trouble, help the misfortunate and have a great time celebrating a holiday that is for the kid in all of us.

Well seeing that I have done some work for Demon House in Pittsburgh, Dracula's Forrest in Scranton PA, and the Asylum in Harvey’s Lake PA I thought it was time to share some of my knowledge with kids that could use a little guidance in our town and let them do something that they can feel good about. The town that I live in is very small so there is almost nothing for the older kids to do besides get into trouble so I thought I would give them something to do that is productive and creative. We hold meetings every month to discuss ideas. I am even helping a few of them with their senior projects. We are making a documentary on what goes into the production of a haunted attraction.

During the summer I also run a program for the younger kids called art in the park. What we do is take the younger children ages 3-10 and do little projects for an hour or two ranging from painting bird houses to making wind chimes out of soda cans in our local park they love it.

In the fall I also run a town wide scarecrow contest in my yard. on top of working full time and taking care of my wife and two girls so I am a busy busy man. lol

All of that is really great. I live in a small community too. There have been times when different projects were created to help the children/teens in my town. Unfortunately, interest dies very quickly among the adults, along with their financial donations and willingness to help, so the projects die right along with it. I would like to do more but my resources and networks are very limited.

Welcome wikkid669 I have often thought of using the haunted house we do in the neighborhood for the same thing. A couple of bucks to get in and we would donate 100% of the money we made to our favorite charity. Did you find that most people were willing to pay to get in. I feel funny about asking the neighborhood to pay to a neighborhood haunt. What are your feelings on this

When we started the haunt last year, we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to accomplish . The only problem we had was big haunt no help so that is why I asked the older kids. as far as charging to get in, we made it very clear that this wasn't just for me and my neighbor to make extra money. It was to do something the town could appreciate and look forward to every year. besides. 2.00 and a can of food, not a bad deal to get the ever living crap scared out of you. My mother owns a screen printing shop so I also had the ability to get some shirts printed up for the kids that helped. They loved them made them feel as if they were a part of something. the best thing is I see them in town being respectful of the place that they live in. and I am now the coolest dad in town.

here is the t-shirt I gave them that i designed the back has SKELETON CREW on it
