Oh wow I thought this thread disappeared into the ether. I guess it was in some sort of approval bin for a bit so I sort of forgot about it.

Thanks for all the great welcomes here. I will definitely be glad to answer any questions on pumpkin carving, and even moreso will be pumpkin you all on all those most cool decorations you make.

Here's one I did from last year - a pumpkin sculpt of Darth Vader:

If interested, you can see more at my site, Fantasy Pumpkins.com. I list my carvings by year there. I also started a thread in the generate discussion on this.

Absolutely, I'd love to! I've gotten my whole family in the act. Even my 9 year-old has been carving for 4 years now. Here's one she did last year for Super Mario character, Boo:

welcome pumpkin carver, i have a cousin that spends a whole month carving pumpkins, and then he emails us pictures. my grandson entered a pumpkin decorating contest at the post office a couple of years ago and won first place. then he was entered in the state contest and took something like 3rd or 4th place or something like that. and then, lastly, i have in a book somewhere that tells there is a place where they celebrate halloween and carve pumpkins and then place them going up a hill or something and then light them halloween night. this is somewhere in mass. i would love to go to mass in the fall and be able to see this. i bet it is a wonderful sight.

Welcome to the Spooky Crew! I love carving pumpkins but these days I have to leave it to the kids and Hubby, I'm usually too busy with decorating. I love the smell of candle burnt pumpkin!

That sounds fun. I've really had the chance to enter a carving contest. If there are some around here, I haven't encountered them. Although really, I haven't looked far - I'm more than satisfied having folks stop by our yard. And yeah, I think there's a really large festival in Massachusetts. One of the pumpkin carvers on the site does his carvings for that festival, as he lives out in the boonies so not many come to his house.

Thanks for the welcome! BTW, did you know there's a TON of great maleficent patterns out there? Here's one I made in 2006 - I redid it to a fake pumpkin in 2007 (posted in the pumpkin carvers thead):

Thanks! There are some incredibly talented people here in this family! I'm really hoping to get some prop ideas that I can use to spruce up my pumpkin display. Right now, I have a few fake skeletons and stuff, but really, I've given virtually no thought there. To date, I've really only given consideration to how best to display my pumpkins. Here's the front of my house from last year (left to right, and then right to left - its at the top of a hill on a corner, so it has a nice display area):

I'll never get anywhere close to some of the fantastic cemetery displays with all these customized props, but hopefully I can find some ways to but better Halloween surroundings to the pumpkins. I think I can do a better job of perhaps hiding skeletons behind them and stuff, and perhaps might come up with some more interesting things to prop the pumpkins up. Right now I just put them on stands and so forth.

But if you guys have any ideas on how a VERY novice prop maker might "Holloweeni-cise" this pumpkin display, I'd LOVE to hear any and all of them!
