Oops. I missed this section and jumped right in posting last week. My name is Melissa - couldn't think of a Halloween-type nickname. I'm enthusiastic about Halloween, but have never done a lot about it because it was just me (and almost everyone thinks I'm insane, but there are lots of reasons for that (cats, Renaissance faires, and Halloween)). But my boyfriend loves the holiday too, and last year we started jumping into it with both feet. Someday, a full-on yard haunt, but we're building it slowly. Pretty much, I dress up for the TOTers, pass out toys, sitckers, candy, whatever, play spooky music and have a blast!
Last year, John (BF) built a fabulous scarecrow, kind of a cross between the one in Sleepyhollow and the creepy figures in Blair Witch (it wasn't stored well and has to be replaced, but this time will go into safer storage). I have a little werewolf/demon/thing that I sit on the roof or the front porch (that freaks the little ones out, so the roof is best). Simple but cool effect: we hung glowsticks from balloons (black, with black ribbons) and attached them so they swung in the breeze. THIS year... I want a skeleton, we're doing a few tombstones, have to figure out some lighting, I want a fogger... My wish list (& John's to-do list) is getting longer and longer. It's all about the fun, so I want it to stay fun and not become too much work, so we can KEEP doing it.
Glad to find a group of year-round Halloween geeks like me!

Hi Melissa. The more you get into it the more work there is to do.But it's a labor of love.Start out small and don't panic. With the majority of people doing nothing other than turning on a porch light and passing out candy,it doesn't take much for any yard haunter to get a great reputation. Then the real addiction starts.Which reminds me....must get more tombstones and fog.
Ask not for whom the bell tolls......
