First off, I want to say I'm inspired. You're a talented bunch here!
A bit about myself. Halloween and the time around it is my favorite time of the year. I've always done a bit of decorating (real beginner noobie stuff) but for this next Halloween I really want to go all out. I already know that what I want to do is beyond my current know how but figuring things out is going to be part of the fun right?
I'm going with a pirate theme. Went to my first pirate festival this year. It was awesome! Also, was just in Disneyland and went on my favorite ride (Pirates of the Caribbean of course!) three times. So I'm really feeling this is the way to go for me.
I plan on setting this up in my courtyard at the entrance. It's a rectangular shape so I'm thinking of breaking it up in two parts, the dead side and the live side. Dead side will be a pub scene. Lots of rum and grog, treasure, maybe a silhouette fight scene. At least one talking/singing skeleton but 3-4 skeletons in all.
The live side will have pirates pillaging a burning town. I'll kiddy corner one side with a set of three or so tall buildings likely made from foam. The windows will have that moving fake fire effect, fog machines for smoke and crackling fire background sounds. Lots of crates and loot scattered about.
Down the road, I may add a ship sailing in from the front yard attacking the town and pub. The courtyard has two brick walls with decorative cut outs which would be perfect to set cannons and guns into. But I don't think I could get to that third part for 2012 since I'll be starting from scratch on everything for this.
I've been hitting the thrift stores and picked up a couple things from after Halloween sales. I have a feeling I'll be at the goodwill outlet store a lot this year!
Anyhow, that's me and my idea for 2012.
Happy to have found this forum.
You can call me Aswrn or Jess. Both are fine.
