I just joined this awesome site, but have been reading for quite some time. I am fairly new to the haunt world and have been looking for lots of ideas. I have a degree in electronics & robotics and I am loving the creativity of the Haunted House projects. I got involved with the Haunt World because of a church project. I am an active member of our church and for the last several years I have over seen the props & decorations for our Vacation Bible School programs. Last year I was asked to help create a haunted house in the basement of our church as a community outreach event. It was a HUGE success. I started simple last year, but this year I went bigger and we have made this a fund raiser for our local food pantry so I wanted this to be a huge event. We simply asked for a donation of $1 or a non-parishable food item. We have already decided that this will become an annual fund raising event for the pantry.

I started building props July 1st and Oct 23rd was our opening night. We had 160 people go through opening night, during the 3 hours we where open. Our basement is about 3500 sq. ft and I designed it to fill the area. There are around 30 home built animated props along with a maze of walls with specific lighting to help hide the roughly 15 volenteer haunters that move through out the maze. Everything is controlled by 2 Mitsubishi PLCs, BooBoxes or EFX TEK controllers. Add in numerous audio files and it turned out to be an awesome haunt. We are not a full scare haunt like most haunted houses because our event is open to all ages and is a family event, but it is designed with 3 levels of scare factor. I try to stay away from gore, but just about anything else is possible. A huge thank you to websites like this and fellow haunters like you, because it has helped us make our event possible. I am gaining more ideas everyday which will help us make improvements to our event every year.

    Thanks,

    Paul
