Well I joined a few days ago, but have been so caught up with reading through the forums that I completely overlooked the polite thing to do, introduce myself. First off I just want to say this is a fantastic site and just from reading through different posts, and especially through different members quotes, I feel quite at home already.
"The Bite of the Big, Bad, Halloween Bug..."
So when I got to that horrid age where I was too old to go door to door trick or treating, and was too kind to be one of the hooligan teenagers who rampage through a neighborhood stealing kids candy, I became a little dismayed that my Halloween fun time was over. However, I swore that when I got a house of my own I would build the kind of scary haunt that I would have loved to visit as a kid. After way too many years of apartment living my partner and I were finally able to buy a home of our own in the Spring of 2010. That whole Spring and Summer I was so busy landscaping and making the house pretty I didn't even think of Halloween. It had been so many years since I had had my dream that I had completely forgotten. But when the winds began to grow cool and that earthy scent that brings back memories of walks through the pumpkin patch began to arrive the Halloween bug came roaring back with a vengeance. To my dismay I had nothing that I was willing to decorate with. Since I hadn't been decorating or doing anything while in the apartment I had left Halloween decorating to my partner since he loves that kind of thing. However he loves the cutesy scarecrows and smiling pumpkin with signs announcing "Welcome to our Patch." While I let him get away with that in the apartment, I had warned him that when we got a house and could finally decorate for trick or treaters that I would not do cutesy. He was a little difficult at first, but a trip to Halloween City brought him around and he was hooked.
So last year was our first yard haunt, and while we had decided we would only do a little bit, but having two people both bitten by the Halloween bug blew the whole going small plan away. I wish I could find some of the pictures from last year but alas they have disappeared. But I will most definitely post some from this year.
Anyways that is a small overview of the beginning of my addiction. I'm sure we all have stories like that.
Thanks again for providing such a wonderful site and great community to be a part of.
Sincerely,
The haunters of Ravenfell Manor

And what's this about removing the cute out of Halloween? Yeah, that sounds like the majority of the people on here. Oh gosh, I hear them now....
