Hello Everyone!
I'm absolutely excited to find this forum! I have enjoyed Halloween my entire life as I am sure you all have. I even had the privelege of working on Haunt Construction one year at Knott's Berry (Scary) Farm.
About 5 years ago I bought my first house on a quiet cul de sac on a short but steep hill. My in-laws who I had bought the house from and neighbors all said Halloween was dead on this block as TOT's wouldn't climb the hill. I quickly discovered that most of the block loved Halloween so I started a block party.
I made most of my own props that year...simple tomb stones, a wood/pvc fence, and a couple of chicken wire/paper mache creatures. Along with music and lights it was quite a front yard display. The neighbors followed suit. Add an 8ft inflatable Frankenstein at the top of the street and we had a beacon to draw the TOT's up the street! We had over 300+ TOT's that year and my wife made 4 separate candy runs to restock us. Last year our Giants were in the World Series on Halloween and I had a large screen TV and Satellite Dish set up. Our block and the parents were constantly checking the score...lol. This year will be our 6th annual celebration.
I'm still a rookie and looking to add animation to my scenes. I will be trying pneumatic props and would really like to learn how to use servos and programs for my animatronics.
Happy Haunting All!
