Since I'm rereading the series I thought I'd start this thread. If you watch True Blood (which I'm fairly well obsessed with) you probably know it's based on this book series by Charlaine Harris. You also might know that it's not all the same. There is a LOT of difference. You can read the books and not spoil the show for yourself in the least.

So who else is reading them? Where are you in the series? Let's talk about it.

I'm on book 6 right now, this one I've not read before- it's Definitely Dead.

My favorite characters are Eric, Alcide, and Sam.

I have read all 10. I ♥ Eric/Alexander. I like Sookie in the book and all her adventures.

I've read them all. Love Sams character in the book, but starting to really wonder about him in the series. I love the Sookie/Eric story and really hope they put that in the series. And the book version of Claudine is way better, their interactions are more interesting.

Yes, honestly, the books and show are like alternate universes of each other.

I do not like what's been going on with Sam on the show AT ALL. It is soo out of character.

I also prefer book Claudine, and in general the way the books have handled the fae angle. There are things I like in the show better also, namely Lafayette being alive and the creation of Jessica.

But Eric in the book... I just don't think anyone but Alexander could have played him. He's exactly as I picture book Eric.

I am almost through book 6, and haven't read the rest yet, but it should get me through til TB starts again... or Being Human s3 premieres.

I have read them all and watch ther series, love love love Eric/Alexander! I really hope they show the Eric Sookie relationship. The series is starting to irritate me though. Too many characters are going so far off of who they are I dont see how they could follow the books at all. Really wished they would have shown the sex party just to see Eric in spandex.

Looks like I should have posted this in Horror Discussion. Maybe a mod can move it?

I've also read all the books so far, though I was pretty disappointed with the latest one- it seemed a little unfocused and didn't have as good of a main storyline as previous books in the series have. Maybe Charlaine has been watching the series too much and it's influencing her writing!
Seriously, I wonder what she thinks about this past season, and how off-track her characters have gone. Nightbeasties, I totally agree that there are some changes that were for the better; Lafayette, Jessica & Hoyt, and Russel Edgington's tv ranting, but what the heck happened to Alcide and the rest of the wolves? And the Sookie/Eric storyline?

I'm thinking, if season 3 was all about getting story lines in place for something big, then season 4 better be outstanding.

Alcide will be back in season 4, the actor's been signed. So glad too, he's so dreamy.

In the books, one thing that really annoys me is the incontinuity. In Dead to the World, Sookie asks Debbie what she shifts into and the answer is lynx. Sookie even gets to see part of this shift during the big mele where Hallow's group is attacked by the good Witches and vamps. Then, in Definitely Dead, suddenly when talking about Debbie, they say she's a wereFOX.

Also, in one passage in DD, Gladiola and Diamanda are said to be demons (which Claudine already counted under the Sookie Stackhouse umbrella as a subset of the fae). Then later, when Sookie is about to attend the engagement party of the queen, suddenly the girls are goblins.

REALLY, Charlaine. If this was on purpose, it's in terrible form. If it was on accident, how can you forget that Debbie is not the kind of animal originally said? Debbie was the kind of shifter that stuck to one form other than human. Her birth sis Tanya, also werefox, so it's as if lynx was a mistake, or somehow it's just not mentioned that Debbie happens to shift into both. Annoying.

I really enjoyed what True Blood has done with Lafayette's character. At first I was a little leery about keeping him around, but I'm content with it now. I still can't really decide if I like Tara being a main character, but I think they did it to increase the number of subplots so the audience doesn't get Sookie-ed out.

I feel like Charlaine is running out of rope in regards to the book series. I'm hoping that the next book wraps it up. I'm excited that Eric and Sookie are finally together, but I feel like all these plots could go on forever and get less and less complex if she just doesn't tie up some loose ends pretty soon.
Her blood coursed through my veins sweeter than life itself. And as it did, Lestat's words made sense to me. I knew peace only when I killed and when I heard her heart in that terrible rhythm, I knew again what peace could be.

I am a fan of both the HBO series and the novels, but I'd have to say that given a choice, I'd stick with the novels. I like the fae much better in the novels, and the werewolf story line, and of course Eric and Sookie's relationship. But I must admit I love Lafayette in the HBO series.

I was a tad dissapointed in the season finale this year...just didn't have enough WOW factor, did y'all think?

That said, I think that Alexander Skarsgard is the hottest thing to come along in lo these many years. You could fry an egg on that boy, he is so hot. I'm holding on for Eric and Sookie's relationship....that's gonna be smokin'!!!
