Fire
Fire, fire come to me;
Come together and be free.
Come to live with me once more;
Come to open a new door.
Light the way, a burning fate;
Light the way to not be late.
Flames that soar into the night;
Take with you my lonely fright.
Come to me to burn my soul,
Come to me; fulfill your goal.
I am here fore the taking,
Rid me of my heart that's aching.
Come to me to banish cold;
To burn the falsehoods of the old.
Let the heat, the roar grow loud!
Consume my soul and be proud!
Your flame, your warmth comforts me,
for now I am truly free.

Whoa, that's pretty powerful...just how many of these jewels have you been keeping to yourself, UnOrthodOx, have you been writing for a while?
Thank you very much, Spookyboo!
I was kinda surprised at how quickly that one came to me last night....did something to boost my confidence for sure, I'm ready for us all to rock this thread.

uh...I guess 15 years now? So, there's a fair few stowed away, and long stories to go along with some. I'm trying to find my older books, as I don't write too often these days. Just not depressed enough, I guess, and I don't like my happy poetry.
The reason I stopped sharing, though, is a few got published.
By someone else....
I should probably also mention my mom's an author. She's had numberous offers to publish books of her poetry, but doesn't as there's no money in it so she 'might as well keep it private'. You can find it occasionally in writing and gardening magazines. Number of articles as well. Few short stories floating around here and there. So, writing was pretty much infused in everything we did growing up.

ARRRGGHH! Honestly it doesn't surprise me, there is no depth too deep that people will stoop to..but I'm sorry to hear that that happened to you. It's a shame the market isn't big enough for your mom to get more of her work out there, even though it sounds like she's done pretty darn well!

Deadly peanut Boy
Lightning snaked through the night sky
illuminating the scene below
A lone man with a gleam in his eye
had an diabolical plan only he could know
beakers and burners lined the table
test tubes in neat little rows
extracting chemical compounds
turning a lever they dripped through a hose
this he thought was his most wicked plan
he would surely make them all pay
those who would cast him aside
one would always pull the foot ball away
His brow furrowed his eyes glazed
remembering the the taunts and the jeers
not even his so called dog would be spared
he had been planning this for years
Not one card or present had he received
not one pleasant invite
they had called him blockhead for the last time
They must all go and go tonight
He laughed in a wicked most troubling way
this time he would make the first cut
for his revenge would include toxins
and a very special peanutWild winds thalt shall blow Carry away my saddened soul Tis the time of judgment

I don't normally read poetry, but when I do I very much enjoy it... especially when it's of an interesting subject. I've always felt that Halloween related poetry is always some of the most fun to read, and I have to say there is some true talent here!

Spookieboo, your talent is so obvious that it's blinding. I'll bet it just flows from you effortlessly based on what you've already posted. I too love the different styles you've used!
Hooch, your poems are graet and so fun to read! Please post a few more. The short ones are the ones I like best. I think it's difficult to write short to the point poems. The pressure to tell a clear story and get it to rhyme with so few words is not easy. Keep it up!
UnOrthodOx, your poems are a little dark, but that's definitely not a bad thing. I very much enjoyed them! That sucks about some of your work getting hijacked. I can understand why that would sour you, but the ability to elicit dark emotions with ones words is very powerful. I'd really enjoy reading some more of your work.
Laurie, I'm glad to see you decided to dive in with your own talent! Your poem is fantastic! Maybe I'm a little biased since it's about one of my absolute favorite horror flicks.
But you really did great with this one. I love the twist at the end! All great stories take an unexpected twist. No pressure, but I'd really love to see a few more.
Personally, I usually have a way with words and I have patience, but just not the talent for poetry. I really wish I did... dark, happy, or otherwise. I've taken casual stabs in the past, but it just doesn't flow easily. I really struggle with it which is why I appreciate when I do read good poems. I also don't have much time with all my other interests. I hope you all don't mind if I peek in occasionally to enjoy your talents.
Okay, that's enough of the love-fest for this post. I'll wait until I read some more before I shower you all with more.

Wow, Spookyboo....I had no idea that our seemingly innocent conversation about my login would be the impetus behind a new poem! I'm flattered!
Thanks to everyone else for sharing your work. I don't know about all of you, but I have always found it hard to share something I created. Its always nice to have a supportive place like this forum to share the things you're passionate about. I wish I had something to share here, but I have never been much of a poet. Keep up the good work everybody!"No one lives any nearer than town. No one will come any nearer than that...in the night...in the dark."
