Linus: You've heard about fury and a woman scorned?
Charlie Brown: Yes, I guess I have.
Linus: Well that is nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of tricks or treats!

I just wandered in here, a section of the site I don't visit and I'm so happy I found this thread. Oh the feeling these poems instill in a person....they are just wonderful! Truly should be published. What a great talent you have sir!

I sat here reading these works, and I kept thinking, "It needs to be a book." I especially loved the March of the Skeletons. Excellent work, HH.

The Patriot's Well –

The Patriot's Well
By Haunted Horseman
In a simpler time he carved on through his day;
Through oak and pine to earn an honest day’s pay.
But the winds of change did sweep through his realm;
As the spirit of freedom took a nation's helm.
He'd do his part to aid this great and noble cause;
In spite of the risk of defying royal laws.
He went to work, sweat and toil both long days and night;
The fruit of which enabled an army's flight.
His seaworthy creations would provide the crucial means;
For a nation's father to leave the New York scenes.
But fate would deal him a hand most cruel;
As his Tory neighbors sought to impose British rule.
In the dark of night, masked figures did come;
Filled with hollow courage, fueled by beer, gin and rum.
They took him from his bed in the cold and rainy night;
To an abandoned well on the outskirts, out of sight.
It happened very quick, before they lost their thin nerve;
A cold heartless end, a man of honor did not deserve.
One scream of horror, as his body fell;
To a watery grave, a story all swore not to tell.
But victims of evil, spirits often won't rest;
The carpenters ghost would rise to put vengeance to the test.
One by one, the conspirators would fall;
Untimely, unexplained deaths cursed the families of all.
Each night at twelve, the wraith's presence did walk;
Until justice was served, the land of freedom, he'd stalk.
Two centuries pasted like the blink of an eye;
Before the task was complete and all the bloodlines died.
But some still say, the ghost can rarely be seen;
Crafting his wood, fashioning boats, to aid liberty's dream.
So should your paths cross, don't fear run or yell;
You've simply encountered the ghost of the Patriot's Well.

Ahhhhhhhh....
... welcome back, and thank you for another addition to treasure, HH. I can see why you need some time in between your poems, because all of them are filled with such life and emotion--I imagine it takes a lot of energy to write one...this one is every bit as wonderful as all the rest, I love it!!!

Thanks Laurie. It certainly does take a lot of me. But I must say, it brings a smile to my face and warms my heart when I hear that good friends enjoy my creations. Pretty selfish reasons...huh????
