A true story from my life.....
I was 8 years old and my older brother 10, we lived across the road from the family cemetery on a dark tree lined country road in Virginia back in 1966. Our grandmother lived one house away from us and you could see the graveyard from her house. Why do I tell you this? It will become apparent soon.
My mother was nine months pregnant with our brother when she was taken to the hospital late one afternoon complaining of stomach pains. I still remember to this day my mother saying, “He’s dieing”, as my dad put her in the car for the 12 mile ride to the hospital. At the time I was unsure what she was talking about but I so understand it today.
We, my brother and I, where take to grandmothers house where grandma and my uncle lived. Soon after mom and dad left my brother and I settled down to watch TV, we were worried about mom and the baby but, at that age our attention-spans were quite short and, we were sure everything would be OK.
A couple of hours later, as darkness fell, my uncle went to take a nap and grandma sat on the couch to watch TV with us kids. It had gotten very dark outside and the only light was the blue glow of the old black and white TV set. To say we lived in the country is and understatement because, the nearest town was 12 mile away and only had a population of around 8,000. When it got dark it really got dark in our neck-of-the-woods! Most of the houses didn’t even bother with a porch-light; we lived in a simpler time back then.
As I was watching TV I heard my brother say, “come and look Joey there are some weird lights in the graveyard.” I walked over to the door and looked out in the direction of the graveyard. It was like looking into ink, but as my eyes adjusted I could make out two lights.
They were not well defined but I could still make out two lights. They seem to be vertical instead of points like a flashlight would make. The memory I have today is they looked like the stereo type of Halloween ghosts, you know the white sheets with round indistinct heads with no features. One was large and the other about 1/3 the size of the big one. We tried to figure-out what they were but, they didn’t look like anything we had ever seen. You must understand something here and that is the lights were dim and not well defined but, my brother and I could see them with no question.
We woke grandma and showed them to her. When granny looked out the door the first thing she ask us is, “where, I don’t see any lights?” We both said, “right there granny in the graveyard, one big one and one small one!” I remember granny putting on her glasses, looking again, and asking again, “where? I don’t see anything.”
My brother and I were very confused because we could see them plainly even if they were dim. As we were trying to talk grandma eyes “onto” the lights the big light dimmed, almost when out, and them came back on strong. Then the little light dimmed, almost when out, and came back on but, not as strong as before. Granny was still trying to “find” the lights as my brother continued to watch them. The lights never moved but only changed in brightness. We tried to figure-out were in the graveyard they were but because it was so dark we could only say for sure they were in the graveyard.
As we watched the big light dimmed again, and almost went out but, you could still see it if you looked to the side a bit. Again the big light came back on but, this time stronger than before. Grandma still couldn’t see the light and had gone back to the couch, probably thinking we were trying to play a trick on here.
As we watched the smaller light dimmed again, come back on briefly, and then faded out complete. The larger light seemed to fade a bit again but then came on stronger than ever. At this point the light was bright enough to see it was vertical and had a shape like a person in a sheet. As we watched, and talked about what it might be, the smaller light dimmed again but, this time it did not brighten but continued to dim until it was gone.
All this took maybe 5 minutes and left us a little spooked. Not because it happened in a graveyard, we had grown-up with the cemetery and even played there sometime but, because of a feeling we could not explain. We watched for another few minutes but the lights never returned.
About five minutes later my uncle came down stairs and seemed a little upset. He would not say what was wrong but grandma and him went into the other room and talked. When they returned they were both a little upset. It wasn’t long after that we were told it was time for bed.
The next morning we were told our brother had died during birth. It seems the umbilical cord had become rapped around him neck and cut the blood off to him head. During the process my mother had almost died twice because she was already week from an illness. From what we found out the baby was almost dead when my mother got to the hospital but, they were able to stabilize them both. Then my mother almost died again, they brought her back, the baby died, and they brought him back. It finally came down to a chose of saving my mother or saving the baby. In the end it was my mother they saved because there was a high chance the baby would have brain damage if saved and my mother would surely die.
I also found out later the reason my uncle was so upset was he had had a dream of “dark lights”. His dream was scarier than our experience, and included something to do with scenes of death; he never would tell us the whole story.
My grandmother always said this was proof of a passage in the Bible which says, young men will see visions and old men will dream dreams. The only thing I know for sure is my brother and I saw the lights and my grandmother couldn’t. My uncle dreamed a dream which scared him, and one he would never talk about.
My brother was buried in the family graveyard a few days later. My mother would have been buried there if she had been the one to pass that night. I have always wondered if the lights may have been their “souls” in the cemetery that night going to what would be their final resting place. I am not religious and consider myself a skeptic but, there are things in life which make you wonder.

What a great experience you had, Dice, thanks for sharing that with us.
I'll share my story:
I was married to a wonderful husband whose pride and joy was a black '70 Cadillac Coupe that he always kept clean. He finally sold it to an acquaintance who took the Cadillac from where we lived in Chicagoland to Florida and totalled the car. It was gone forever.
A few years later, my husband passed away, leaving me a widow at 25. After that, I moved away to Arizona.
About five years later, I went back to visit my friends in Chicagoland. There were some things I wanted to say to my late husband, but I wasn't real hip on going to the cemetary. I was driving by myself in my friends car and asked for "a sign" if I should go to the grave. I looked over in the on-coming lane and there was his black '70 Cadillac, clean and shiny as always, with the same license plate! It still gives me shivers. Needless to say, I went to the grave and said what I had to say. I left the cemetary, started to drive back and sure enough, I saw that Cadillac going the other way in the same spot, once more. I was in that town for about 10 more days and never once saw that car again.
I believe that was my late husband's spirit in that car that day. I believe that there are spiritual things like that going on all around us, all we have to do is be open to them.

My brother was working on furnaces, driving in the country with a helper in the truck with him.
Upon the horizon where the sky met the tree line they both saw what looked like two small, bright skyrockets fly up and away into the air.
As they continued driving toward where this had happened they discovered there had been a bad car wreck right there with two very recent fatalities about the same time they saw the small, glowing "lights" launch up and away."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

If there is a thing as a common supernatural experience it seems to me to be seeing a relative or smelling them if they have a certain aroma just after they die.
I ask alot of the peole coming through my house if they have ever had a supernatural experience?
The other common ones seem to be hearing noises inside your house yet no one or nothing can be found to be a source of the sounds.
The common sounds seem to be footsteps or the sound of breaking glass.
Voices seem to be about the third most common.
Common objects getting lost or severely misplaced for periods of time seem to be about the next most frequent, maybe followed by objects moving or flying through the air.
Someplace in this list would come those shadowy figures seen mostly from the corner of the eye sort of thing.
I don't write anything down of make a tally sheet these are just the way they seem to be in my mind over the years."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
