This is an oldie but a goodie for some of you, only it's been SERIOUSLY revamped LOL. For anyone who has joined the forum in the past year...this is new to you LOL!

[u]THE GIRL IN THE HALL...

It was a hot summer night which was not unusual for Southern California in the middle of July. My Mom and my sisters and I had been playing cards for a number of hours. Finally 3 a.m. rolled around and it was time to hit the sack. I couldn’t have been asleep for more than an hour when I was awakened by a noise in the hall. It sounded like someone slowly walking up and down the hall with their arms outstretched to run their hands along the walls. At first I didn’t want to get out of bed, now I wasn’t normally a scaredy cat, but the sound emanating from the other side of my door could chill even the warmest person right to the bone.

I waited for the noise to stop, hoped for it to stop, wanted more than anything for the soft shushing sound from beyond to cease, but it did not. As luck would have it, the exact opposite of my longing occurred and the resonance began to increase. I wondered how my sisters could be sleeping with all that racket right outside our door. I had a choice to make, either face my fears and see what was going on in that pitch black hall, or lose my mind.

Reluctantly, I pulled the covers back and with the stealth of a cat crept toward the door. I put my hand on the cold knob and turned. Taking a deep breath, and before I could think better of it, I quickly pulled the door open wide…and the noise stopped. I think my heart stopped for a moment, but as I peered out of the entrance to my room there was nothing but silence and blackness.

Timidly stepping out into the emptiness I looked to my left toward my Mom’s room and saw nothing but a closed door. I knew then that it couldn’t have been her because had she tried to open or close it the door would have cried out with its usual high pitched squeak. Snapping my head to the left, expecting to see some sign of an intruder, I looked toward the living room…hushed darkness was all that greeted me there.

I turned back toward my room to go back to bed convinced that I was insane, but there, on the floor beside me, not more than a foot from where I stood was a crouched white figure with incredibly long white hair. I looked down at it, eyes wide with terror, and the figure was looking toward the ground, which I was thankful for at that moment, for had it been looking up at me I would have leapt right out of my skin.

The perched form of the bare female beside me had flesh as pale as fresh fallen snow, and from the look of it just as cold. She was inconceivably thin, but I could see no jutting bones as would have been consistent with one so slight of build. Her slender shapeless legs looked impossibly long even folded as they were beneath her. The torso, although painfully hunched was elongated and sleek, not so much so as to be grotesque, but enough to make one notice that it wasn’t quite normal, which told me that were she to stand erect she would have lumbered over me by at least a good eighteen inches or more. Her lean arms bent with elbows almost just a few inches from the floor shown two gaunt hands with long, slender fingers splayed out on the dark floor before her to support her position like a display of disturbingly sharp knives.

I wanted to run before the creature could peer up at me and define every fear that I have ever had, but I was utterly paralyzed by this gruesome sight. Slowly, as if sensing my dread or perhaps honing in on my thoughts, it began to raise its head. In that instant I found my feet and all but launched myself past the thing in the hall and into my bed, and somehow managing to slam the door behind me. Both of my sisters, almost simultaneously, sat bolt upright in their beds with the thunderous contact of the door to its jam.

Their grogginess quickly cleared as they saw my weeping, shuddering form curled up into a tight ball on the bed, and rushed to me. Not two seconds after my sisters were at my side, my Mom burst through the door. Reacting with lightning speed, my sisters wrapped their arms around me as if to protect me from whatever foe was about to enter our room. Looking up toward her, fearing that the entity in the hall would be standing there to meet my tear soaked gaze, I began crying again, either from relief or from the sheer horror of it all, I’m not sure which. Hurrying over to join in the group hug, it wasn’t long before the trembling and sobbing had ceased, and that’s when the questions began.

As the tale was sprawled out before them they looked at me very much the same way that you are looking at your computer monitor right now!

Happy Hauntings my Children of the Night!
