Books
I'm forever looking to expand my Halloween library. Does anybody have any good books, fiction or non-fiction, that they would recommend? As it stands right now I have the following titles:
Fiction:
- The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury
- Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge
- Johnny Halloween: Tales of the Dark Season by Norman Partridge
- The Autumn Land by James Steimle
- Books by Al Sarrantonio: Hallows Eve, Horrorween, Halloweenland, October
Non-Fiction:
- Halloween Nation by Lesley Pratt Bannatyne (highly recommended!)
- Halloween: An American Holiday, an American History by Lesley Pratt Bannatyne
- Halloween: From Pagan Ritual to Party Night by Nicholas Rogers
- The Book of Halloween (Forgotten Books) by Ruth Edna Kelley
- Extreme Halloween by Tom Nardone
- Extreme Pumpkins vol. 1 & 2 by Tom Nardone
- Pumpkin Carving by Edward Palmer
- Halloween in America by Stuart Schneider
- How to Haunt Your House vol. 1 & 2 by Shawn & Lynne Mitchell
- Haunted House Halloween Handbook by Jerry Chavez
Thanks for any input you may have.

I take it you are looking for Halloween specific books not necessarily horror fiction.
I haven't read this one yet, but will soon. It's a collection of stories all centered on Halloween night by various authors:
Ryan, Alan (edited by) [Robert R. McCammon, Michae
Title: HALLOWEEN HORRORS [A NIGHT OF UNREMITTING EVIL.]
Although these 2 books by the same author are not supposed to be very good reads, Iv'e recently picked them up since they are on Halloween:
Author: Lisa W. Cantrell
Titles: The Manse and Torments
If some others come to mind I'll post them here.October Country...that country where it is always turning late in the year. - Ray Bradbury

I don't see Death Makes a Holiday on there.
Excellent book.

I'm the author of 12 books, several of them Halloween related. You have some great selections there, and I'm friends with several of these authors. Here are a pair of blurbs from some of them from your list:
"Paul Melniczek writes about Halloween as if it's his birthday, Christmas and the Fourth of July all rolled up into one!"
-- Al Sarrantonio.
"Kiss your cozy Halloweens goodbye. Melniczek creates a tense, off-kilter world where vengeance and loss drive characters to the brink and a seemingly endless array of imaginative horrors boot them into the void. Not for the nervous."
-- Lesley Bannatyne.

Thank you Paul. I will be sure to check out your work. A quick search provided some tantalizing results. Looks like my library will be growing just that much more!

Lol. Thanks for checking. If you happen to decide on anything please let me know what you thought. I have 3 books coming out before Halloween, two of them themed around the holiday.

I will certainly keep my eyes out for the new titles, as well as search for the previous ones.

Find a few good anthologies of short stories to add to your list. They are aplenty. Or, I also like Neil Gaiman for Halloween. Paul, I checked out your trailers, etc. Nice work!!! Go to www.theoctobers.com. They have a nice trailer up there, too.

Thanks for the info Mr. October 31. I agree, Paul has produced some really nice work! I encourage everybody to give him a read, it's well worth it. The Octobers looks mighty interesting at first glance. I'll have to check them out when I have more time (all my not-so-free time is swallowed up by my haunt!). I have seen a few anthologies over the years and am keeping my eye out for them again, esp. Ray Bradbury's October Country. I also recall seeing October Dreams once. Should have picked it up then as I have yet to see it again. Oh well, hindsight eh?
