What are your favorite Halloween novels?
Ones that are a little creepy, spooky, and get you in the Halloween spirit.
I'm not talking about short stories, but novels with memorable characters and a great storyline.
Traditional Halloween and Monster classics are definitely welcome.

If you like mysteries, you might try Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Party. Hercule Poirot is the detective.

I don't have any traditional Halloween novels in mind but my favorite scary novel is "The Stand" by Stephen King. Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend" is a novella length story in a book of short story collections. Both of those authors are really good for me to get into the Halloween mood.

I was fortunate to have read Bram Stokers Dracula BEFORE ever seeing any of the movies. So I have always had a slight obsession with that novel. Without any preconceived notions about what is going to happen, that story is genuinely creepy. Not sure how it would be otherwise, but definately worth a try.

One of my favorite books of all time. Have read it more times than I can count. And I too read it before seeing the movies. Just a fantastic story. The movie was more of a love-story really than a horror one, but I have to admit that Gary Oldman (sp?) was a FANTASTIC Dracula!

Not technically a Halloween novel, but try to find a copy of Tanith Lee's 'Kill the Dead', which relates the tale of Parl Dro the ghost-killer.
A short read, but worthwhile. Can't say any more without spoiling it though.'A mind of metal and wheels . . .'
