Yes, write for yourself first and don't necessarily raise your personal expectations too high. In many ways it's like the music field, where millions of people write their own, all hoping (and thinking) their product is the best and will make it to the top. Well, realistically it's more of a dream. But that shouldn't stop or discourage anyone from pursuing their creativity, whether it's art, writing, or music. And self-publishing has been an outlet for many people who would otherwise not have a chance to fulfill their dream. Just always read the fine print.
I've had some of my books on Horror Mall, but most are available direct from publishers, Amazon, and some digital ones at Crossroad Press. Good luck!
