Just saw a preview for this and it looks interesting. Shades of Nightmare on Elm Street, but definitely a different storyline.
I hate that it is being converted to 3D - but it still looks good to me.![]()

I posted a thread about this back in June, the trailers out too. I'm to keen on the 3D craze either.

Craven is kinda hit or miss in his direction & writing. The Scream franchise was great but his other non-NOES stuff hasn't been so hot, though I admit to not having seen Red Eye or the one Meryl Streep one.
Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

To me, it looks like a mix between Nightmare on Elm Street and Final Destination. Not too impressed.
Adding 3D on top makes it more like a jumper/screamer that will make tweens wet themselves but lack staying power.
3D and Horror do not belong together, IMO. I don't see the point of most 3D treated movies, and a lot of films seem to toss 3D into production just for ticket prices.
Horror films seem to have gone a bit stagnant again, recycling old stories into new....somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
And the best advice you may ever get is never to go out…at night.

I read an interview last night with Wes Craven where he said the story revolves around a serial killer who upon his dying breath curses the town he is from. The curse was to someday come back from the grave and kill the seven children that we born on the eve of his death. Flash forward 16 years and the kids are teens and the killer comes back. The killer's own son is the only one who knows whats going on and tries to help the victims.
The 3D aspect he said was going to be very subtle. Not spear in the face type effects. He used it more to accentuate the victims paranoia. He said he used it to pull a character out of scene or to create atmosphere. He wanted to use the 3D to get into peoples heads and add to the tension and eerieness. His hope is that people don't even notic when the 3D takes effect so as to not let it distract from the movie.
Finally, Wes indicated that the movie will be low on gore and more character driven. The last thing he spoke about was with such an young, unknown cast he had to school teach as well as direct the actors. He said teens tend to talk to fast or mumble too much and he had to coach the young actors to speak more clearly and annunciate, so the lines would carry over to the big screen. But in the end he was satisfied with their performances and it made him reminisce about Johnny Depp and how he was the first director to cast him. He marveled over Depp's career and was proud to be a part of it.
