Hey all, I have a question for all the horror movie buffs in the forum. I am a gal who loves a good horror movie and have garnered quite a collection. My latest purchase was the movie The Thing, that movie to me is a classic, a must have for any horror movie collection.

Herein lies my question, what would you guys on the forum consider the 'must haves' for a horror movie collection??

    To me some movies that come immediately to mind would be;

    1) The Evil Dead
    2) The Thing
    3) The Exorcist (this movie to this day I have problems watching...lol)
    4) Nightmare on Elm Street
    5) The Shining
    6) The Howling
    7) Friday the 13th
    8) Halloween
    9) The Fog
    10) American Werewolf in London
    11) The Changeling
    12) Carrie
    13) Black Christmas
    14) Amityville Horror
    15) The Omen
    16) Poltergeist
    17) Scream

Wow, theres lots of 'THE' words in there...

Anyhoo...in the term 'classics' I'm not necessarily meaning older horror movies. Just the must haves for a good collection.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts forum.

Check out "The Fly" with Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, an overlooked gem, filmed in Vancouver. Goldblum was in serious contention for an Oscar nomination that year. He would have been the first Horror Film actor nominated since Charles Laughton for "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" back in the '30's.

I totally agree, The Fly, Cats Eye and Pet Sematery are all amazing movies. I do not have the last 2 in my collection, they're definitely worth adding. I'm a bit of an oddball, when I watch Pet Sematery and the part where the Dad stabs Gage with the syringe and the little boy falls down makes me cry...lol (I'm such a softie I guess)

    Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks!

    Via their movie favs.
    "House On Haunted Hill"-Vincent Price
Did you know the actual house shown in the movie was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright?
Notice the odd patterned concrete blocks, this house was also used in a Vampire move made ..maybe in the 1990s? They actually used the inside of the Wright house in that movie.
"Psycho"-Alfred Hitchcock's The nice youngman from "next door" is Ed Gein! That concept of seemingly "normal" people doing dastardly deeds should scare us all.
"Nosferato" 1919-Germany Old Black& white scary images seem so bad dreamlike to me!
"Haxan" also a silent movie, scenes and things you will never see in any other movie, a story of witches.
I guess I like the historic old movies and the psychological instead of the blood bathers.

For me it's all about classic Universal & Hammer horror.

Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, all the Christopher Lee Dracula flicks, etc.

    And Nightmare Before Christmas.

Boo Baby excellent list, you have good taste in horror movies. I mentioned before I'm an Argento fan so he'd be on my list. I love horror anthologies too, stuff like the old Amicus movies, creepshow etc.

I'd have these on it too Fight Night, The original Dawn of the Dead, 28 weeks later, The Beyond, Return of the living Dead, Burnt Offerings... argh so many to chose from!

halloween_sucks_in_the_uk, sounds like we'd get along great! I just watched "Suspiria" for the zillionth time last night (it was showing again on the Fox movie channel) and was going to add "Creepshow" to the list. "Fright Night" is one of my must-watch vampire films, along with "The Lost Boys" and "Salem's Lot".

Gym Whorfield, I second your suggestions, too. "Häxan" and "Nosferatu" are hard to beat for their stark, nightmarish atmosphere.

Totally agree with The Thing - that use to freak me out loads!

The Fly, yes, but make sure it is not the follow up because it is not a great movie.

The Blob is good for a laugh...but not a scare really.

Not really horror but the scariest movie I have seen is Wolf Creek. Very scary indeed.
