Wes Craven. An excellent director. Came on the scene with Last House on the Left, a very controversial film for its time. Then came Hills have Eyes. Later, a ground-breaking film Called "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was created. It spawned an amazing franchise and has a very large cult following. He also went on the make some film's such as Deadly Friend, Shocker, and The People Under the Stairs. And of course, the Scream Trilogy (Neve Campbell is amazing). Craven is an Excellent director. In talk of Freddy Krueger, I do like him more than Michael Myers. I think its his back-story that gets me (in the original, NOT the remake). I also think the nightmare films are alot more fun than the Halloween films. I do however like the cast of the Halloween films better than the nightmares.

John Carpenter. A phenominal director. He was barely old to enough to make the film Halloween, yet he did it. He made one of the best horror films of all time, go figure. Halloween is a masterpiece in itself, which spawned some great sequels, and gave birth to the legendary scream queen, Jamie Lee Curtis. He went on to direct Somebody's Watching Me, The Fog (also with Jamie Lee Curtis), Halloween 3, Escape from New York, The Thing, and In The Mouth of Madness. Personally, I love his style. He is also an excellent director. In talk of Michael Myers, I believe he is scarier than Fred Krueger, but I just think the Nightmare films are more enjoyable than the Halloweens. However, the casting is better in the Halloween films, as Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ellie Cornell are just wonderful

Who gets my vote? Wes Craven. I am more of a Nightmare Fan, than a Halloween fan. Freddy Krueger is legendary. He created so many films that I just ADORE, rather than the films Carpenter did, which I am sort of "Iffy" on (Beside Halloween and The Fog). I do, however give Carpenter a generous amount of credit, just for Halloween, and The Shape. I just find his films serious, and Craven's are serious, and fun similtaniously.

I agree Wes Craven is better. But you have to understand, Freddy is more of a joker, which makes him less scary. But Michael's lack of speech makes him all the more scary. But then again, Wes did make all 3 Screams.

And what would that one film be?

Deadly Friend, Hills Have Eyes, Last House on the Left, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Serpent and the Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs, Shockers, And Scream, to me, were all decent films.

Carpenter didn't direct Halloween III, though he did compose the music for it.

Is it really fair to judge Carpenter Vs. Craven on the basis of the Halloween and Nightmare franchises?

Carpenter only directed one and wrote another in The Halloween series. Craven directed two(If you count New Nightmare) and wrote 3 in the Nightmare series.

Well, I'm really just going by the original films. Halloween vs Nightmare on Elm Street. And Carpenter did help out with Halloween II, and composed music for III.
