I've mentioned the video nasties list before. I remember when I collected horror movies when I was younger, me and my horror loving friends would always look out for horror movies included in the list. Just for the sake of seeing what all the fuss was about. It's funny now because most are just laughable. I found a video about it on youtube. Funny as I've had kids and gotten older I lost my taste for gore movies.

YouTube- THE ORIGINAL VIDEO NASTY BANNED LIST

Got to wonder why such were banned and still banned. EVIL DEAD???? Okay, some blood in it.
I am guessing not seeing most of the movies showned, I guess they are in the gorish tone and the 1970s.. (L). Some I did see and have, and wonder, what was such things that got it banned (the house near the cemetary). Maybe the minute they were italians made movies.. BANNED!!! Couldn't stand the badly englished dubes, maybe?

I love italian horror, fulci and argento stuff. Most of the stuff that got banned was all thanks to some mad religious hag called Mary Whitehouse she was always on some crusade to rid the U.K of the filth of horror

There's some great info about the whole era here..

It's really funny on what they banned when you consider some of the things the BBFC have passed in recent years. I found Uwe Bolls seed utterly disgusting, I couldn't watch it much of it.

The use of real life animal cruelty at the beginning of the movie was pointless to the storyline and just for pure shock value. I hate that kind of thing being an animal lover I saw a few brief moments of it which gave me nightmares for weeks. The fact that PETA allowed him to use this in this awful movie is unbelievable. My brother watched the whole movie and was shocked that this even got past the film censors.

I love horror but watching babies starve to death and decay or real animal snuff isn't what I call entertaining. Quite a lot of the stuff on the nasties list is so low budget the fx are very fake and laughable. I'm not really into the newer movies, I can't stand torture porn stuff. Gimme a classic like Halloween anyday.

Yes, Seed was disgusting, my wife couldn't finish it also and I got rid of it the same week I got it. I pushed myself to finished to watch it before getting rid of it, in very fastfoward mode, skimping the sick parts and it truuullly sucks. Pointless and retarded. I think you and me have the same taste in movies, HallsukyintheUK. PS: I am also a huge animal lover, and seeing animals hurt is a nono for me.

Some good stuff on that list and some of it is tame by today's standards.

HallsuksUk, I don't care for torture porn either. Never cared for anything super graphic. The best scares don't involve blood, imo. There is a difference between being scared and grossed out.

Midnite, I prefer paranormal stuff now. One of my favourite movies is The Changeling, even though it's a little dated, I still love the atmosphere.

I'm with ya on each count.

I take a beating for loving Hammer films, but (while not scary) the atmosphere they present is top notch.

    Love the paranormal stuff too.

I totally agree with you Halloween, The Changeling is amazing. Sets such an effective creepy mood with little to no blood at all. That movie is great at giving me the willies...I love it!!
As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.
