Default The now I have seen it all remake

Holy Cow, I thought I had seen it all, but what is arguably the most disturbing movie (and sick) ever made is being remade. The question I ask is why. The one and only time I ever watched this movie was in 1985 and it had absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. From the absolutely horrifying rape scene (The most brutal rape scene in cinematic history) to its revenge mutilation scenes this movie should have had an X rating.

Your absolutely right...that is it! You are along the same lines as I felt when I originally heard about the remake of Last House on the Left, but I know this one is absolutely horrifying. I just don't know what to say anymore.....apart from one inevitable question - WHY!?

The almost 26 minute long rape scene, is something I'm hoping they won't recreate. I didn't like this movie I found it hard to watch and low budget. It was a case of the director seeing how far he could go with this exploitation movie. I don't see why it needs remaking some films should stay in the past and not be redone.

I read this on another site about how the director got the inspiration for this movie...

In the commentary for the Millennium Edition, Zarchi said that he was inspired to make the movie after helping a young woman who had been raped in New York. He tells of how a friend of his and his daughter were driving by a park when they witnessed a young woman crawling out of the bushes bloodied and naked (he later found out the young woman was taking a common shortcut to meet with her boyfriend when she was attacked). They took her with them, took his daughter back home, and talked with the friend on whether they should take her to the hospital or to the police. They decided to take her to the police first, which they soon afterwards discovered was a mistake — the officer, whom Zarchi described as "not fit to wear the uniform", delayed taking her to the hospital and instead insisted that she answer questions about her assailants, even though her jaw had been broken, and she could hardly talk. Finally, Zarchi insisted to the officer that they take her to the hospital right away. Zarchi said that soon afterwards the woman's father wrote him a letter of thanks for helping his daughter, and wanted to give him a reward, which he turned down.

In the same commentary, Zarchi denied that his movie was exploitative, and that the violent nature of the movie was necessary to tell the story. He described actress Camille Keaton as "brave" for taking on the role.

Angry You have got to be joking.

Well. Hm.

I have never heard of this film and I don't look forward to the idea of a remake. Seeing how lenient film ratings and restrictions on content are they film maker will probably keep some sort of rape scene to push how far he can take it, and then when it gets released to DVD there will undoubtedly be an extended rape scene "too shocking for theaters."

It all sounds like horrid crap to me. Rape is something that doesn't need to be portrayed in films, and brutal gorey violence to get revenge against ones rapist is hardly a premise for a film. My bet is that if and when it comes out it will be compared to the Saw series and "blow people away with it's gritty realism and violence."

And the movie industry wonders why their sales are down.

In today's climate, no remake is surprising anymore. And really, in today's culture, it's going to be completely sanitized and changed to get an appropriate rating.

The original film, to me, isn't horror, but just sickening (much like Last House - another overrated, not "scary" film"). I'm not about the 'revenge film' so I will ignore this remake (like many others) and move on with my movie watching day.

As I've said many times before - if you don't like remakes, then don't buy into them and ignore them. Hollywood will do whatever, but it doesn't mean you have to watch them.

Am I alone in not being sickened by I Spit On Your Grave and Last House On The Left? I just find them poorly made. I just don't see the big deal, film is film. A movie is just a movie.

How does everyone feel about The Virgin Spring? It bascily inspired The House On The Left in terms of plot but is considered by many to be a great film, it even won an Oscar.

People complain about remakes all the time but seem under whelmed and even negative about something like Trick 'R Treat which is the type of film horror fans have wanted to see some a major studio for a long time.

Your not alone and I really liked Trick r' Treat. However as far as remakes go I do not have an issue with them as long as the are well made which you and I have discussed in length before. The big problem with remakes is for every one good one there are three bad ones, but I am excited for The Wolfman and The Crazies.
