Samedi, yeah, the Haitian zombie in my opinion has never been a large focus of Hollywood, save for a few films that tried to use them as a plot device.
And I can believe the Haitian tendency to avoid the subject. From what I understand, (correct me if I'm wrong) the fear in Haiti is not of zombies themselves, but of becoming one. Zombies generally are regarded with extreme pity.

Thanks to Twatlight I feel the need every little bit to watch a marathon of "Lost Boys", "Near Dark" and "From Dusk Till Dawn" to remind myself that not all vampires are pussies.

Correct on both counts, sir.
A spaced out Madge Bellamy gliding around in her nightie is not going to bring the $$$ rolling in, not in this day and age...I think one can safely classify the new breed of Zombie as a distinct and seperate species..Zombie Anthropophageus as opposed to Z. Originalis.
And yes..fear and superstition are ingrained into the Haitian psyche through years of persecution, deprivation and poverty.(Haiti is officially the most impoverished nation on Earth) For many Haitians, the fear of a "living death" where even the most basic of one's posessions...one's very soul, is taken is a much more terrifying prospect than death itself.

I like that. I read the term 'carnitrope' once, and thought that was good, meaning "turns toward meat". Your term is more complete a description, though.
Frankly, in most of the older folklore, they would be revenants, but these days revenants return to seek justice or vengence, like "The Crow".

Baron and Spatz...I was just having a little fun myself. I appologize and I did mean it when I said that it was interesting. I do have a strange sense of humor. Again, sorry.

I would never damage a decent silk top hat...
Pumpkin Torture, no need to apologize, just caught me off-guard.
I try to keep an eye on tone perception in forums, but it isn't always easy.

yes, please, NO MORE Gen Y vampire movies or TV shows...and pretty please, no more horror movies who's whole point is thinking up different gory ways to kill or maim people (Final Dest., Saw, etc.)
I'm a big horror fan, but watching someone get gutted onscreen with the ultra-realistic gore makes me wanna vomit!
