I have young cousins to whom I send gift books every year around Halloween. This year, I'm still choosing what book to give the 15-year-old girl. She has average to above-average reading skills. The book can be fiction or non-fiction. Nothing too outré; I don't want to get in trouble with her parents. She's already read the Harry Potter books. I'll have to ask her mother if she's read A Wrinkle in Time, but that's a good example of the type of book I'm looking for.

These recommendations are from my 16 year old daughter:

House of Night Series....12 of these books (she says they're amazing!)
Blue Blood Masquerade and Revelations Series
    Vampire Academy
Sisters in Sanity (non-vampire book LOL)
    Right Behind You (non-vampire book)
    Project 17

She says she can't think of anymore right now, but she will give me a list tonight. She is a HUGE book fan and loves to read. Right now, because of Twilight, she is into Vampire books.

I highly recommend [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Revenge-Witch-Apprentice-Joseph-Delaney/dp/0060766182/ref=ed_oe_h"]The Last Apprentice[/ame] series by Joseph Delaney. Like the Potter books the main character starts pretty young, 12 I think, and grows a year older with each book. Although I loved Potter, I find myself enjoying these probably more because the the magic is more earthy and elemental and the setting is definitely creepier. If she likes ghosts and witches (the witches in these books are more primal and gritty) she would enjoy them.

Although they are rated for a younger crowd I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to older kids, even adults. I'm constantly caught off guard by how scary they can be for kid's books.
