I need some movie ideas. Now, I've seen loads of slasher/scare flicks; Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, Pyscho, etc.
But this year I want to buy a movie that is family friendly. The youngest person in our family is turning 15 just before Halloween; my brother. The problem is that he gets very easily frightened. He likes computer animated films a lot which is why I've gone for movies like Corpse Bride, Monster House, Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. He likes all of these, but I'd also like a more grown up horror movie he could watch as well, and perhaps a non-animated film.
I was wondering if you had any ideas of any more movies he could watch? I am showing him the glory of Jacob's Ladder this year, which I think he'll find creepy but not scary. All ideas appreciated, thank you!

What about some of the old Hammer Horror movies of the 1960's and 70's..
Most of them are rated PG nowadays..They're very tame by todays horror flick standards but still "grown up" enough for a 14 year old.
I love the Hammer movies and still watch them regularly.

I'd say Sleepy Hollow would be a good bet.
More creepy and atmospheric than blood curdling, but if you've never seen it and you say he scares easily might wanna give it a watch through yourself first. But there's not too much in the likes of gore, just storytelling and suspense.

Ah yes, he loves Sleepy Hollow. I have it on DVD already and it's been added to our film list.

Thank you!

Another child friendly cute movie are the Addams family movies...
But for a bit more scare factor...
I actually sat down with my 8 year old and let her watch her first scary movie this past summer. We watched the movie April Fools Day. Its an older movie, from 1986. The reason I had chosen this movie for her first was because the storyline is that a girl invites a bunch of friends to her familys estate and one by one (big shock), they get murdered. There are a few scenes which look a bit gory, but (SPOILER ALERT) it all ends up to be a big fancy murder-mystery type of thing. At the end all of the 'dead' friends are in a room hanging out and the last people standing are just freaking...
I have tried to explain to her that even with really scary movies its all make believe, that actor that just got killed in the movie is going to get up once they say cut and have a sandwich for lunch. This movie was exactly that, it showed them 'die', only to show that it was all make believe.
BTW, she quite enjoyed it
As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

Ah thank you. I'll check it out! (Anyone notice how most of the better horror movies were made between the 1960's - 1980's...?)
