Hi all you classic horror movie enthusiasts! I'm trying to remember an old movie I saw as a little boy. I believe the movie to be in the late 70's, and all I can recollect from it was that a wife had died, and was buried for quite some time when a grave robber, or her husband, was in dire straits and exhumed the decaying corpse. He then cut off her ring finger as it had a diamond ring attached to it, then he went home. I guess this really upset the corpse, and she rose from her coffin and set out to look for her finger with the ring. To make a long story short, she finds the guy in his bedroom and gets her revenge.
I would really like to find this movie to play at a Halloween party. Is there anyone who has the slightest idea as to what this movie was called?

Sounds like a variation of The Golden Arm story, but I don't know the movie.

Been trying to do extensive research to look up this movie. Keep coming up with very little. I have a question though: When you said "or her husband, was in dire straits and exhumed the decaying corpse." You meant the 80's band The Dire Straits didn't you? I have looked up both the brothers that started the band and came up with nothing so far. I will keep looking.

Okay I looked and looked and looked for the movie under your description and the only movie I could come up with was this:

    Black Sabbath (1963)

    Starring: Boris Karloff

Plot: A trio of atmospheric horror tales about: A woman terrorized in her apartment by phone calls from an escaped prisoner from her past; a Russian count in the early 1800s who stumbles upon a family in the countryside trying to destroy a particularly vicious line of vampires; and a 1900-era nurse who makes a fateful decision while preparing the corpse of one of her patients - an elderly medium who died during a seance.

Maybe it was an episode of an old show?

Oh dear, you're quite young, I'm sure. But to be in "dire straits" means to be in a desperate situation, or desperately poor. The band Dire Straits got the name because the phrase sounded cool.

LOL I know Catmean and yeah I am 23, I misunderstood what they were saying my husband was dying laughing at me when I asked him about it. Haven't heard that term used too much though lately except for the 80's band! hehe!

Okie Dokie, what you folks are refering too is indeed an old t.v. series. The answer is Rod Sterling's Night Gallery. Am currently searching old videos to see if I have that episode from the early 70's.

I have seen tons of episodes from it but I just couldn't get that story and Night Gallery to click in my brain. lol. Also let me too know what the name of the episode is. I am thinking I may want Night Gallery for my upcoming bday.
