I can't believe that I haven't seen "The Fly" on anybody's list. The David Cronenburg version with Jeff Goldblum and Gina Davis. If you guys consider yourselves true "connoissuers" of Horror, you gotta see this one. Goldblum was very close to receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He would have been the first Horror actor to be so honored since Charles Laughton for "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." It's an excellent film.

Another fairly recent one that I just thought of is "The Mothman Prophesies". I don't know if you could actually classify it as a 'monster' movie, but it is really disturbing and spooky, especially when you take into consideration the fact that it is based upon real incidences. Anyone heard fron Indrid Cole lately?

I can honestly say that I love both versions of this movie!!! How can you go wrong with Vincent Price? and I agree that it is a very chilling rendition with Jeff Goldblum...Cronenburg really knows how to "STICK THE PINS IN" as they say!!!

My mothers favorite movies are the fly and aliens. She will watch one of them before bed.
She knows them by heart and she'll watch them to fall asleep
    It's kind of funny!!

The cool thing about the David Cronenburg version of "The Fly" was that they treated the relationship between Geena and Jeff more as a "Cancer Victim Love Story", except, instead of dying from Cancer, the guy is turning into an insect.

I agree, the thing that made the movie a success goes back to the origin of all great Horror movies, that we , as "spectators".....can find a bit of ourselves in the characters and that we feel an empathy with the suffering, recognizing a bit of the monsters in ourselves!!! A truely wonderful film!!!
