Movies can get to seem to be old hacked out hairballs that we really DON'T want to study.
Are there any psychological horror movies really being made anymore?
Eliminate the buckets of gore and wanton murders, go for the artistic camera work on seemingly "normal" settings that suddenly are definately not normal at all!
Subtle mood enhancing tones and sounds, maybe foregoing actual music that distracts and doesn't add anything. (Less is More?)
Instead od pandering to low expectations , mostly of the sort I have just alluded to, "lead" the mind through a story and a place that really works, with excellant acting, expressing emotions from characters we are allowed to identify with(which means they have to be on-screen more than a few seconds)
Tell a story. Not the SAME story.
Throw a few change-up pitches but make them make sense and entertain or at least seem plausable and real.
Hollywood turns out a slick, profitable product thanks to committee work, but wouldn't it be so refreshing to have a single-mined, single visionary handling all the decisions like an Alfred Hitchcock again? Just to see what someone really could do without pandering to the bean-counters and the 14 year-old minded customers. I have always practised trying to give people and young people "More" and guess what? Usually not only can they "handle" more, but they thrive upon it!
Maybe because they realise that I am trusting them with it, so to speak?
Another committee, another brown four-door with no chrome?
Another committee and a snazzy, jazzy race car without a starter and not enough headroom for even a midget?
How about a big bus, with luxury seating for everyone that is turbine-powered and climbs straight up sheer cliffs? Something alittle "Different"?

I watch the reactions of my kids when we view scary movies. My boy (a grown man now) was pretty much impassive no matter what. My daughter, also all grown up now, was quite demonstrative during the "scary parts".
My 6 year-old takes after her sister. I get a charge out of seeing her kick her legs cuddled up in my lap when somebody on-screen is "gonna get it". But the films that I've seen the most reaction from her? The Shining, Psycho, Jaws, Friday the 13th and the original Hallowe'en. In fact, for a while there, if I needed her to behave, all I had to say was, "Michael Myers" and she'd settle down.
Today's kids aren't fizzed by the blood and gore. They know "It's not real". Any fool can show blood and guts. But to build and sustain suspense- that takes a craftsman.Wolfman

Just heard on the news today that they took a poll of the overall mood of most movie-goers today and they are unsatisfied with most of the movies coming out recently this year and in general says that most movies "Haven't been very good." Also in the poll they had mentioned that people are starting to view the role of celebrities as a "bad thing". Also mentioned was that people would rather watch movies at home than go to the cinema. Just thought I would share that with everyone there are somethings I agree and disagree with this. I always love going out to see movies at the theater I just wish they had a movie worth a damn to go see nowadays.

I think the mood of the country has gotten really bad ever since 9-11.
It sure seems to me that alot of the public displays of humor and happiness are less frequent now than I have ever seen them.
People feel they have a right to inflict their negativity on anyone around them and to heck with the consequences!
Maybe our young men dying everyday halfway around the world in some sand dune has something to do with it?
It is hard to ignore those headlines, illreguardless of how you may feel politically about this."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

My list of great flicks done right the first time:
#1 - Exorcist (wouldn't see the remake, then again I really don't want to see the original again...scared me for a week)
#2 - Texas Chainsaw Massacre (what the @#$% did they do, oh yeah apparantly we want to watch the BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, saw it for free on cable, not scary like the first one)
#3 - Phantasm (No remake yet)
I also have to include Sean of the Dead, funny but stayed true to the genre.
But I hate K&N movies, give me monsters Hollywood!!!

I like remakes myself cause it brings the old into the new and bring life back to the once forgotten horror movies. It also helps get the classics released on DVD
. But that's just me.

I am just a horror movie junky.
My most recent favorites are:
(they change from week to week)LOL!!!Depending on my mood.
1. The Exorcist
2. The Amityville Horror and Possesion
3. Poltergeist 1 and 2
4. TCM (the new version)
5. The original 13 ghosts
6. Nightmare on elm street
7. Queen of the Damned
8. Interview with a vampie
9. Underworld
10. The haunting
I just saw skeleton Key and it was ok.
I am very excitted to see The exorcisim of Emily Rose.
It looks spooky to me.
I think that most movies made today are not as scary as they use to be.
i also agree that most PG 13 movies leave you with a sence of ....HUH what just happend?
They cut too many corners. At least with Horror flicks.
I have been a horror flick junky since I was a small child. It's a tradition at my house to camp out in the living room with a mattress and watch horror movies all night long.
We also have horror movie marathons.I love it!!!

Trinidee - We do the same thing! I LOVE having horror movie nights and setting up everything in the livingroom. its like a Mini-party! lol. Also usualy when October Rolls around my husband and I pick one horror or Halloween oriented movie to watch every Friday night and set up with Halloween candy, popcorn, and anything else to make the occasion fun. Usually light all the candles in the living room too to "set the mood."

NOW you're talk'N!!!!
That is exactly what we do.
I have what I call the 31 days of October.
I try to watch a movie everyday.Ok ....there are a few days in there where I am busy so.....
On the weekends we try to make up for it and watch a could of movies.Or on a sunday have a movie marathon that goes on all day.My kids love it and it's kind of a fun tradition.
They look forward to it every year as well as I do.
They each have there favorite flicks.Example my daughter hates darkness falls but loves chucky.Don't know why? My son Loves anything scary,I mean anything. One of his favorites is Horror express and he wants to see the exorcisim of Emily Rose.
Wow I have trained my kids well.LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only my halloween friends would understand.
most of my other friends probably think I am a poor mom for letting my kids watch these shows.I Love Halloween ,they love Halloween.I turned out ok,they will be OK too.LOL!!!
Happy haunting
